Sony has been one of the leaders in the smartphone industry for what seems like forever. But what would be the top 10 best Sony smartphones 2017? Let’s have a look in this list!

Sony smartphones 2017

1. Sony Xperia L1

Released around March of 2017, the Sony Xperia L1 is the one to start our list. This simple but effective device is definitely on the affordable end of the scale here. It comes with a 5.5 inch HD display, which is a pretty big screen size for this price range! It’s powered thanks to the 1.4 GHz quad-core MT6737T chipset. There is 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal memory. If that internal memory is not enough for you, there is also a microSD card slot to increase its media storage capacity.

If you need to capture photos, we can look at the pretty great cameras that the Sony Xperia L1 is sporting. It comes with a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP selfie camera, perfect for taking selfies. Finally, to power all of these great features, it sports a 2620 mAh battery. All of this comes in an awesome package price, with it costing around $179!

2. Sony Xperia R1

The Sony Xperia R1 was released later than the Sony Xperia L1, coming out around in October of this year. This is another one of Sony’s lower price point phones, which is great for those on a budget who still want a great device. This one has a nice design, looking really sleek and with a nice off-center main camera placement. It runs thanks to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, and has a 5.2 inch HD screen and the Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset 1.4 GHz to power it. It also has a 13 MP main camera, an 8 MP selfie camera, and a 2620 mAh battery which helps the whole thing run. All of this for just around $202.

3. Sony Xperia R1 Plus

The Sony Xperia R1 Plus is the bigger sibling to the Sony Xperia R1. Both have really similar designs, with the same size screen (a 5.2 inch HD screen) and the same kind of processor (the Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset 1.4 GHz). They both also have the same camera and batteries setup, with a 13 MP main camera, an 8 MP selfie camera and a 2620 mAh battery. However, the “Plus” comes from the difference in RAM and internal storage: the Sony Xperia R1 Plus has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. This difference is also what makes the difference in price, with the Sony Xperia R1 Plus coming in at around $233.

4. Sony Xperia XA1

The Xperia XA1 was released to the public early on in the year as well, in February 2017. This phone has a rather small battery, with a 2300 mAh battery. However, its other specs are great, with a Helio P20 octa-core chipset 2.3 GHz, combined with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. This phone also has a smaller display, with a 5 inch HD display. The big selling point for this device is definitely its camera abilities, with a 23MP main camera which is able to capture incredibly clear and sharp images. It also has a great 8MP selfie camera. All of this still remains in the lower price point range, at around $269 for this device!

5. Sony Xperia XA1 Plus

This smartphone was a rapid update and renewal to the Sony Xperia XA1, released in August 2017. The Sony Xperia XA1 Plus is Plus in many ways. First, there is the possibility to get a 4GB of RAM version of the phone, as well as 32GB of internal storage. It also has extra screen space, with a 5.5 inches of display, and with a higher resolution as well: Full HD resolution. The XA1 Plus also has added security with a fingerprint scanner, and a battery upgraded to 3430 mAh. Other elements are the same as the Sony Xperia XA1, with a Helio P20 octa-core chipset 2.3 GHz, and a 23MP main camera and an 8MP selfie camera. This Plus also costs a bit more, but still a reasonable price of $389.

6. Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra

First released around the same time as the Sony Xperia XA1, the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra was released around February of 2017. This one is a lot larger, with a 6 inch Full HD screen, for those big sized screen lovers. This one is available with 2 sets of internal storage, either 32GB or 64GB. It also has a Helio P20 octa-core chipset 2.3 GHz, supported with 4 GB RAM and powered by a 2700 mAh battery. Like its siblings however, this one impresses users with its amazing camera abilities, with a 23MP main camera, and a 16MP selfie camera! This comes in at around $404.

7. Sony Xperia XZs

This smartphone is the successor and heir to the awesome Sony Xperia XZ. It was released in February of 2017, and comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD screen, which is great for those who prefer smaller screen sizes. It runs on a Snatchdragon 820 quad-core chipset 2.15 GHz, which is powered thanks to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. If that’s still not enough memory space, don’t worry — you can expand it with a microSD card, thanks to the microSD card slot. The Xperia XZs also supports amazing photos, with a 19MP main camera, and a 13MP selfie camera. What is amazing is that the main camera even supports slow motion video, with ups to 960 images per second!! It also has a fingerprint scanner for security, and comes in at around $549.

8. Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is, as the name suggests, Sony’s smallest smartphone of the year, for those who miss being able to put their phones in their pockets! Released in August this year, it comes in with a cute 4.6 inch screen with HD resolution, and a strong performance thanks to its 845 octa-core Snapdragon chipset 2.45 GHz, and its 4GB of RAM. It also has 32GB of internal memory, also supported with a microSD card for memory expanding options. This phone also comes with a great set of cameras, with a 19MP main camera and a 13MP selfie camera. This tiny package comes with a reasonable price of $599.

9. Sony Xperia XZ1

The Sony Xperia XZ1 is an updated version of the Xperia XZ, and was released about halfway through the year in August of 2017. An unfortunate change is that the battery size has been decreased from 2900 mAh to 2700 mAh. A really great change is the upgrade that they added to the chipset, with a 845 octa-core Snapdragon chipset 2.45 GHz. Other specs are similar, with a 5.2 inch Full HD screen, 64 GB of internal memory (supported by a microSD card slot), a 19 MP main camera, a 13 MP selfie camera, and a fingerprint scanner. This comes in at around $670.

10. Sony Xperia XZ Premium

In our opinion, this is Sony’s best smartphone of the year! Released early in 2017 in February, it comes with a really great look and design. It sports a 5.5 inch display, which is capable of displaying images with resolution up to Ultra HD (4K). 4K display is the highest resolution in the world of smartphones today! The phone has a great battery. With a capacity of 3230 mAh, the XZ Premium battery is one of the largest Sony ever produced. The mobile comes with a 845 octa-core Snapdragon 2.45 GHz chipset, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory (supported by a microSD card slot), a 19 MP main camera, a 13 MP selfie camera, and a fingerprint scanner.
