Apple has to pay 110 USD/iPhone X to Samsung

It might not a surprise at all when we say the Apple iPhone X device is one of the most expensive phones in the market right now. However, have you known that Apple has to pay 110 USD to Samsung for every iPhone X sold?

Why must Apple pay Samsung?

Although having some technic problems, the Apple iPhone X is still a hot item recently, especially when it is also the trendiest iPhone in iPhone’s history. Just in case you haven’t known, the OLED screen, or AMOLED, of the iPhone X is made by Samsung. A funny fact is that the iPhone X can bring Samsung more profit than its own Galaxy devices. According to an analyst group, they predict that Apple can sell up to 130 million iPhone X units by the quarter 2 of 2019. This results in earning Samsung a lot of cash from OLED producing. In fact, for every $1,300 (Rs. 85,326) Apple makes from one iPhone X, it has to pay $110 (Rs. 7,220) to Samsung for the display price!

We here in PricePony personally think that one of the reasons why Samsung charge Apple a lot on the OLED is the legal stuff between two companies. Rumor has it that Apple is gaining more advantages over Samsung, so this price tag is revenge from the Korean business to its American opponent. Moreover, we can say they are in a very complicated relationship. They sue and cooperate with each other at the same time. Is it true that in the business battlefield, your nemesis is also your friend?

For your further information, the Apple iPhone X’s manufacturing cost is only 1/3 of its selling price. We can list out some of the materials for you: the 256GB ROM costs $45 (about Rs.2,954), $106 (about Rs.6,957) for the stainless steel frame and “glass hyperbolae.” This price hasn’t taken other costs like R&D, marketing, and taxes into account, of course.
