CEO Asus: Less computers to be produced, more Asus smartphones coming

Before 2015, Asus focused their business mainly on manufacturing PCs, laptops and notebooks, which brought in more than 50% yearly revenue. But the story has changed quite a lot now….

Asus smartphones have changed the story

On August 6, Asus held their Zen Festival 2015 to proudly launched 3 new brothers of the world-famous Zenfone 2. However, with positive feedback the company has been receiving, during the Zen Festival held on August 6, onney Shih, Asus’s chairman shared:

“The PC market is slowly showing signs of decay as the world is moving to a cloud first, mobile first platform. At Asus, we believe in riding the current technology wave and hence in our research and development we are focusing more on devices like convertibles that will provide more productivity and connectivity on the go,”

“Nearly 20 percent of our revenue comes from smartphones, and by 2017 we are expecting that more than 50 percent of our revenues will come from this vertical,” Shih said.

“Our growth has been steady and the group has been growing at a pace of 20 percent year-on-year. We intend to carry forward the momentum this year as well,” he continued

Shih made his point very well-heard. The new Taiwanese Giant will switch their goals and focused products from PCs and laptops to smartphones.

Also in the Zen Festival Shih shared about the reasons why the company choose to stick to Intel chips for their Asus smartphones instead of Mediatek or Qualcomm. According to Asus, Intel chips help run the smartphones smoothly and do not face any heating problems.
