After a few days, good news have come for Square Enix: Final Fantasy XV has shipped over 5 million copies, making it the fastest one in the franchise. The news was reported from a Japanese press release. The game was also reported to have set a new record for digital launch-date sales in Japan. This shows that anticipation for the game is indeed very high!

Final Fantasy XV is also the first installment of the series to be launched globally on the same day. Earlier this year, director of the game, Hajime Tabata, has shared that the game must sells 10 million copies to be considered a success. Later, he clarified that the 10 million figure was just the company’s personal goal, not the number they need to achieve to make a profit. With a good start like this, that goal is surely within reach of the studio.

It has truly been a long and rocky road for Final Fantasy XV. The fifteenth installment of the Final Fantasy franchise, one of the best JRPGs ever, was first announced more than a decade ago as part of the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, at E3 2006. However, the project was later changed to Final Fantasy XV during E3 2013. The game then had been delayed several times, until its designated launch on November 29.
