While Surface Phone is still a mysterious, very little information about them. Today, we have a new leaked about a foldable Surface Phone.

While Microsoft is yet confirm the name of its upcoming mobile device, we know it is not easy to develop a new product. There is a leak from MSPowerUser about Microsoft’s device, which also suggests possible design of their new phone. The patent first filed in October 2014, however, it is just made public recently. According to the patent details, there is a 2-in-1 devices which can act as both smartphone and tablet. The device could flexible fold in the middle to switch from a tablet to a phone.

Obviously, there is no guarantee that the patents will turn to be introduced in a consumer product. But as we can see, the current smartphone market is so competitive and once Microsoft wants to continue in this race, they have to stand out in an increasingly saturated mobile market so it makes sense for the firm to be considering such a novel approach. The device in the filings can be configured into various shapes, either folded out like tablets, or folded back inwards to create a smaller phone-like handset. There’s also the opportunity to place it in a tent-mode much like Lenovo’s range of Yoga hybrids which can be propped up to make it easier to watch media.

During an interview with the Australia Financial Review last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said: “We will continue to be in the phone market, not as defined by today’s market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device.” Yes. They have taken an universal approach to Windows 10. Therefore, the phone could transform into another mobile products would make a lots of sense in terms of benefiting Windows 10’s capability.

 

Foldable Surface phone: Availability

Until now, there is no clue to ensure that we will see this technology in a retail-ready product from Microsoft. Though some version of the foldable device could well arrive, such as Samsung or LG.
