Mate 9 review: the phone is big, but not bulky

At the first glance, the handset is a full-metallic housing along with a curved unibody . The top, bottom and sides have a subtle polished effect to them, which contributes to the phone’s sleekness. In the middle of that metal body is the fingerprint sensor. It is very fast and accurate, which takes around half a dozen taps per finger. It comes with some shortcut that can facilitate users, for instance, you can swipe down to open notification box

It features a 5.9 inch display with full HD resolution. Compared to other smartphones like Nexus P6 (5.7 inch) or the predecessor Mate 7 (6 inch), the phone is not bulky. It is fairly easy to handle by one hand. The front screen is coated by 2.5D glass. Although the phone only offers a 1080 resolution, it can convey color display excellently.

Mate 9 review: EMUI 5.0 – the latest version of Huawei’s interface

Huawei is well-known for EMUI – a developed interface style which is as simple as iOS but allows a higher customization. EMUI 5.0 is the latest Android-based operating system from Huawei. This new system has a clean and living look and feel that compliments the simplicity of its user experience. Thanks to the new version, Huawei Mate 9 features a new, darker notification shade, which is more customizable and more icons shown at once than ever. The battery settings menu is significantly easier to jump to in EMUI 5. Also new in EMUI 5 is the ability to use multiple accounts with WhatsApp or Facebook through the Twin App feature. In general, EMUI 5 feels more balanced — both visually and in terms of feature set — than previous versions.

Mate 9 review: Leica camera with stunningly beautiful images captured

After the cooperation between Huawei and Leica in the P9, the two company maintain their partnership in the Mate 9. The handset packs a combination of decent cameras. In the back, it features a dual camera, the main one is 20MP and the second is 12MP. Both has an f/2.2 lens assistes by OIS, which allows it to capture sharp images even in low light condition. A higher-resolution secondary sensor also allows the Mate 9 to generate more realistic bokeh effects in its “wide aperture” mode. Besides, the rear camera is intgrated with phase deetection & laser autofocus plus dual-LED flash. In the front, it sports an 8MP snapper behind a f/1.9 lens, which facilitate 1080p resolution.

Mate 9 review: Full day using and fast battery charging

The phone carries a 4,000mAh battery capacity. The phone never failed to get us through a full day of mixed use on LTE and Wi-Fi, often with more than 50% in the tank by the evening. Even the phone has to work really hard with lots of photography and a little wireless tethering, we never came close to experiencing battery anxiety. As with most quick charging standards, the main benefit is being able to restore a dead phone to a serviceable battery level in a very short space of time.
