Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will have season pass

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been announced for the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U recently. Now, Nintendo has also said that there will be an “Expansion Pass” for the game, the first time this happens in the franchise. The Pass will be available from March 3 for $19.99. It will be available on both consoles, and there will be extra contents to be released later in 2017. Players cannot purchase these packs separately.

Nintendo has revealed the contents of the extra contents. Pack 1 will arrive in summer of 2017, with a new Cave of Trials challenge, Hard mode, and a “new feature” for the in-game map that we don’t know yet. Coming much later, in the holiday season of 2017, there will be a pack with a new dungeon, a new original story, and some additional challenges. Purchasing the Expansion Pass will also unlock three extra treasure chests in the Great Plateau location of the game. Among those, two will contain “useful items”, while the third will be an exclusive Nintendo Switch shirt that Link (main character) can wear on his quests in-game. The overall point to this expansion is, as producer Eiji Aonuma said, to provide players who have finished the main contents of the game more to do once they are done with the original stuff.
