A new Sony device appeared on a benchmark site: 4GB RAM, 21MP cam, Android 8.0

Amidst all the on going coverage about the new iPhone, a new Sony device quietly appears on a Benchmark site. And it suggests Sony is up to something different than usual.

New Sony device specs: 21MP cam

No image or renders have appeared along to suggest what the device will look like. Adding to the difficulty is a 6-inch display. Sony has been the one company to stick close to tradition. None of their current product lines have such a massive screen so it’s possible that Sony is preparing for something new. And what is the better occasion to join in the trend of bezel-less display than a brand new device? So from what is available, we can expect this device is the first bezel-free Sony phone.

On the specs sheet, the details are more specific. For instance, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset running an Octa-cores CPU. The model of the chip doesn’t appear along with the brand. However, with Adreno 508 GPU, the most compatible chip is Snapdragon 630. The memory measures 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Similar to the newly released Sony Xperia XZ1 series, this device also comes with Android Oreo out of the box. Sony is behind in the hardware race, but when it comes to software, they are the one leading the industry for now.

For the mobile camera man/women out there, Sony seems to have something special for you. If you are thinking dual camera then no, it’s not likely. Sony has been adamant in sticking to a single lens with huge numbers. However, the camera of the Note 8 must have sparked some discussion in the company. The reason for that is a feature called the “touch focus” on the camera sheet. For now, let’s keep our fingers crossed that it is going to be good.

New Sony Device announcement: possible early 2018

It’s so early that not even a render about the phone has appeared so it’s only logical to assume that official announcement is only happening in 2018. And judging the spec, we believe that the price targets the mid range segment rather than high-ends.
