Samsung UFS memory card: Amazing speed!

First let’s talk about UFS. UFS 2.0 is the internal storage standard that is invented to replace the the e-MMC standard, which is much slower and more common. This standard was applied on Samsung Galaxy S6. And now, seeing the advantage of UFS 2.0, Samsung has decided to feature this super fast technology in removable storage as well. Samsung UFS memory card has made a debut lately and is available in 4 variants: 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB.

Now let’s talk about its reading/writing speed! The 256GB version of Samsung UFS memory offers up to 530MB/s of sequential reading speed, which is 5 times faster than that of microSD card. This reading can even compete with SSD drives for computers in the market. Samsung UFS memory are even 20 times faster in reading random files.

To be more specific, this Samsung technology can read a 5GB full HD video clip in 10 seconds, while microSD card takes 50 seconds to read the same amount! Samsung UFS memory also supports fast writing speed! For example, this technology can write 24 large JPG pictures within only 7 seconds, it takes 32 seconds for a microSD card to do the same job!

Samsung UFS memory card: Price and availability

According to such reveals from Samsung, UFS memory card seems to be a dream removable storage. However, it will take quite a long time for this technology to become popular in the market. The reason is 99% smartphones with removable storage in the world only supports microSD card slot, which is not compatible with Samsung UFS memory card. There are hints that this technology will be featured in the next product of Samsung: the Galaxy Note 7, but we don’t think the Korean brand are willing to take that risk. If they do, a more common smartphone in 2017 will be a better device for testing this technology’s popularity.
