Instagram Lite app finally arrives for Android weighing just 573Kb!

Notably, Instagram has quietly announced a new lite version of its app for Android users this week. According to our sources, the new app is listed on the Google Play Store. However, it seems like Instagram Lite is not available for download in India at the moment. Discovered by TechCrunch, the Instagram app weighs a mere 573 Kb, which is 1/55th the size of the full-fledged Instagram app (which is around 33 Mb in size). Similar to Google, the new application targets the next billion users that using low-cost entry-level devices that have limited storage.

Moreover, the Instagram Lite also takes less processing power for accessing the internet. Besides, the apps can work better than the standard version in areas of slow and patchy internet connectivity. Based on the Play Store listing, the new app was updated and probably uploaded, on June 27, 2018. For now, the current version is 1.0.0.0.145. Additionally, the Instagram Lite is compatible with devices running on Android 5.0 and up. Furthermore, it already has over 500 installs. As mentioned above, it is under testing phase in Mexico this week.

“We are testing a new version of Instagram for Android that takes up less space on your device, uses less data, and starts faster,” an Instagram spokesperson shared with TechCrunch.
