IFA Berlin is always one of the most awaited events of the geek world. Many smartphone brands will introduce or even launch their new products at this event. And Lenovo is of one them. At IFA event 2016, this Chinese company announced their new smartphone- K6, along with K6 Power and K6 Note. This new Lenovo K6 showed up at the event with an all-in-one metal design with a fingerprint scanner on the back.

In terms of Lenovo K6 specs, this phone is powered by a 64-bit octa-core SND 430 processor and runs on Android Marshmallow OS. This new phone packs 2GB RAM paired with 16/32GB expandable ROM. This memory can be expandable up to 256GB. For photography, the company added an 8MP selfie snapper and a 13MP main cam. The other K6 specs include a 5-inch Full HD display and a decent 3000mAh battery.

Besides K6, Lenovo also announced K6 Power and K6 Note. K6 Power is a slightly upgraded version of K6. This phone is equipped with more capacity (4000mAh) and 2 RAM versions (2/3GB). The other Lenovo K6 and K6 power specs are the same. On the other hand, K6 Note is K6’s Pro version with many strong specs. It sports a 5.5-inch FHD display, a 4000mAh cell, SND 430 chipset, 3/4GB RAM + 32/64GB expandable ROM (+128GB), a combo of 16MP+8MP cameras, and an Android Marshmallow OS.

With the standard K6, Lenovo is aiming at the budget segment. This new handset from Lenovo is expected to be one of the best budget phones in the market. After Galaxy Folder last year, Samsung decided to bring another flip phone to the market this year- Galaxy Folder 2. A few days ago, this phone spotted on TENNA with many specs. Now, this phone continues to be leaked. Some images of this handset have shown up online. As you can see in the pictures, Folder 2 looks similar to its predecessor. The images also show the Antutu scores of this device- 23434. With these scores, Folder 2 is aimed at the mid-range segment.

As the successor, Galaxy Folder 2 specs are better than the original one. Under the hood, the phone is powered by a 1.4Ghz SND 425 chipset. It packs 2GB of RAM paired with 16GB of expandable inbuilt storage. About the camera, the company will add an 8MP primary camera which is the same as the main camera of Galaxy Folder. Honor 8 running on Android v6.0, was released in July 2016. On the other hand, even though the Moto G4 Plus was launched sooner in May, it is working on Android v6.0.1 from the start. Moto G4 Plus is backed up by Snapdragon 617 chipset with 4GB RAM and has 32/64 GB storage. In the case of Honor 8, the smartphone runs with HiSilicon Kirin 950 with 64GB memory storage and 4GB RAM.

Specifically, Honor 8 allows the user to have 47% battery in 30 minutes of charging. In terms of screen display, both phones have a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Both have fingerprints sensors, although Honor 8 sensor is uniquely placed at the upper back while Moto G4 Plus sensor is hidden in the phone’s Home button. In terms of camera features, both phones offer many similar features such as touch-focus and face-detections, but the differ greatly in terms of camera qualities. Moto G4 Plus main camera is 16MP  (f/2.0), 1080p videos at 30fps, as well as a front-facing 5 MP camera (f/2.2) auto-HDR. On the other hand, Honor 8 offers dual primary 12 MP (f/2.2) cameras, remarkable 1080p videos at 120fps, and frontal 8 MP camera (f/2.4)!

Conclusive verdict: elegance vs affordability

Before we talk about the function of megapixel, let us introduce the term “pixel”. Pixel (picture element) is the basic unit of programmable color on a digital display. The size of the pixel depends on the size of the screen and the resolution it supports. To be more specific, if we have two screens with the same size, one with 2k resolution and the other with full HD resolution, the pixel in the 2k screen is smaller than in the full HD screen.

Now let’s get back to megapixel. One megapixel (1MP) is equal to one million pixel. In smartphone photography, the megapixel mentioned in smartphones is the resolution of the image taken by the camera of that phone. The more megapixels, the bigger the image. If you view an 2MP image on a common 15-inch full HD laptop, that image will be big enough to cover the whole screen. Then how about images taken by 23MP camera? They could be as large as a billboard ad, which is quite too much for smartphone photography.

As smartphone brands keep promoting their smartphone cameras by mentioning and increasing the number of megapixel, there is a misconception that phone camera with higher megapixel is more powerful. In fact, the quality is more important than the quatity. Nikhil Bhogal – an expert in smartphone photography, has shared that the quality of each pixel is more essential than the number of pixels. So instead of packing more pixels in the sensor, smartphone manufacturers should increase the size of each pixel.

To be more understandable, he has compared how a pixel collects light to how a bucket gathers water: “The bigger the bucket, the more photons they can collect”. Larger pixels make it easier for light to find its way to the photo-sensitive part of the camera sensor. Samsung does this job very well in Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge. That’s why these phones, with their only 12MP cameras, can defeat other phones with 16MP camera and above to be the best smartphone camera in 2016. Samsung had already come up with the same product in the past. In 2013, there was some information about a Samsung product called Ativ Q. They have just come up with a new patent of a phone that has the same feature. The thing is this time they have got the patent licensed before making any public announcement of the new product. According to the patent, both Android and Windows will be running at the same time on this phone.

Yu Yureka S and Yunique Plus: budget 4G LTE phones

It has been a long time since Micromax released its new products. Now, its subsidiary – Yu – has just introduced two new phones: Yureka S and Yunique Plus. These two 4G LTE phones are the successors of Yu Yutopia and Yunique. As the successors, these devices come with a lot of stronger specs. First, let’s come to Yu Yureka S.

Yu Yureka S is powered by a SND 616 processor and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. It packs 3GB of RAM paired with 16GB of ROM. The memory can be expanded via microSD card (up to 128GB).
