Nokia President: “Mobile phones are our history, not our future”

Ever since we got to know about the expiration of the contract between Nokia and Microsoft later this year, people have been asking Nokia president whether Nokia will come back to make smartphones again. And seems like the topic is very controversial now…

Nokia CEO

“Mobile phones are our history”

Last month, news has been burst out that Nokia-made smartphones, feature phones and tablets will soon hit the shelves once again. This made tech geeks and Nokia fans around the world so happy and excited for the grand return. However, recent reports are suggesting the total opposite, according to which, we are afraid it would be a No for the question whether Nokia is coming back with smartphones…

“We have absolutely no interest to go back into the mobile business. That’s our history, not our future,” Ramzi Haidamus, Nokia president of Technologies unit just shared online. But don’t you be disappointed yet. It doesn’t mean Nokia will not involve into the industry at all. Instead, the company is licensing its name to HMD – another company also from Finland. This company will design, make and of course, sell Nokia-branded devices.

Instead, Nokia president said they will be focusing in the health industry. Back in April, the giant announced their acquisition of Withings – the French digital health company – , making it a real game with a brand new field.  That being said, we are hoping to still see future Nokia smartphones being produced. The only difference is that, the company will not take part in the design and manufacturing process.

Nokia smartphones 2016

T0 make the long story short, from what we have gained so far, Nokia smartphones will still be manufactured and launched later this year. However, it seems that the company will not directly involve in any process of that. Nokia, on the other hand, found their “true calling” and will be focusing on VR camera (the OZO) and health industry (Source)

Windows, iOS, and Android are 3 current smartphones in the market right now. And Android smartphone seems to become a trend and dominate two other phones. That is a result of a research firm- Kantar Worldpanel. According to this firm, its latest data has shown that Google’s Android is keeping to lead the smartphone market in the first three months of 2016. This is not really surprised.

During this time, the Kantar company has observed the sales of smartphones in the whole market. And it concludes that Android is now standing in the first place with the share of the global phone market is about 76%. This market share has raised 5.8% compared to the same quarter last year. This may be caused by the smartphone switching from Windows Phone to Android smartphone (about 10%).

Android smartphone

Last year, Windows Phone still had its certain shares. It was 3.8% in the US market and 9.3% in EU5 (Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, and Spain). This year, this phone has had a big drop to 1.3% in the US and 4.8% in EU5. This situation also happens in other markets. iOS phone is in the same condition of losing slice in the main markets. Now Apple holds 18,3% slice in UE5 (fell 1%), 20.1% in China (lost 4.4%) and  30.7% in the US (lost 2.5%).

Android smartphone: can iOS phone compete?

Android smartphone is and will continue to overwhelm the other phones, especially iOS phone. This is a long battle. Apple should be careful because it lost it market shares even in the place it dominate as an only smartphone maker. Apple has just unveiled iOS 10 and Google is ready to release Android N. So, tet’s see if iOS smartphone can compete with Android smartphone.

5 Tips To Speed Up Android Phones

One drawback of Android phones is that they sometimes encounter lags. If you happen to own an Android phone and have to deal with the same problem, here are 5 helpful tips to speed up Android phones.

speed up android phones

Speed Up Android Phones: Take care of your apps!

To speed up Android phones, the first thing you have to do is keep your apps updated. Not only some important apps but all the apps you’ve installed on your phone. If your phone doesn’t support automatic updates, you should check for the updates manually and frequently. Some of your apps are laggy because they are outdated. Getting the newest version can solve that problem.. And don’t forget to check for the system updates in the “About phone” option. However, you shouldn’t update by 3G or 4G because it will cost you a fortune!

Second, to speed up Android phones, you need to remove or disable unnecessary apps. After using a phone for a long time, you may store up too many apps. And usually, those apps slow down the performance. You may hesitate to uninstall them, saying that you will use them at some point, but trust me, you won’t! So if there is any app you haven’t used for more than a month, go ahead remove it! Also, you should disable some unnecessary apps running in the background to minimize the lagging issue.

Besides, you had better clean up your home screen. This is a good way to speed up Android phones. Home screen widgets are great, but many of them consume lots of RAMs and even some of them are not necessary. So if you find your phone too sluggish, you should try removing abundant widgets on your home screen and see the result!

Speed Up Android Phones: Power saving mode and full factory reset

Power saving mode is very helpful sometimes. However, you should know that this mode slows down the performance, as it reduces the clock speed of your processor and the display rate. Hence, you should use the power saving mode only when necessary. And finally, when you have tried all of the tips below and your phone still performs badly, consider the full factory reset. This function will speed up Android phones by removing all of your data in the internal storage and returning your phone to the beginning. But before you resort to this method, remember to backup all of your important data in advanced.

What if Apple make a dumb phone – iDot

We all know Apple for their premium, luxurious iPhones launched every year. But did you ever think, what would happen if they are to release a simple, non-smartphone device?

iDot device

iDot – Apple’s anti-smartphone handset

This exciting and unique idea is made my German designers from Curved, in a project called “Apple anit-smartphone”. And the simple keypad “dialer” is named iDot. iDot is in fact a compact phone that can work either as a separate mobile device or as a supplement to the smartphone. It is a perfect option for those who would like to keep their life active and independent from those addictive smartphones.

The authors of this iDot concept explained that, this mobile device works similar to the Apple Watch. When not connected to a smartphone, the handset can only function to basic calls and SMS, exactly like a feature Nokia phone. Once connected, it becomes a Bluetooth wireless mobile which can receive notifications from SMS, calls and other apps.

iDot device

iDot, as it appears, is a very light and portable handset that weighs less than 100 grams and as slim as 6.3 mm. There is no camera or Internet connection. And targeting as an “anti-smartphone”, the iDot doesn’t support any app at all. The only “cool” feature it offers is the capability to sync with your iPhone via Bluetooth, including contact list. Last but not least, there is a micro-SIM card slot.

iDot – solving smartphone’ battery issue

As most smartphone users struggle a lot with their short-life mobile battery, the anti-smartphone iDot has a battery that can be charged using a standard Lightning cable and last up to 5 continuous days. There are 3 color options: space grey, silver and rose gold. And although this iDot is nowhere close to being produced yet, it is still a very interesting concept that’s worth considering.
