Recently we heard a lot of stories and talks about our all time favorite – Jordan Clarkson- playing for our Philippines National Basketball team. The first Fillipino to play every for the NBA, has mentioned that he really wants to play for the National Team, but it should not interrupt his season with the Lakers.
According to news from the Philiipne Star, Jordan Clarkson, will not play this time for the national team, because he needs to ensure his commitment with the LA Lakers:
“In an email to US-based Philstar.com contributor Homer Sayson, Mike Clarkson, Jordan’s father, cited timing as a factor in his son’s decision to pass on the chance to don the country’s colors, emphasizing Jordan’s current commitment with the Lakers in the NBA.
Jordan is in town and has started working out with the nationals.”
Many of us expected Clarkson to play, after it was discovered tha the actually has a Fillipino Passport for quite some time now:
The state of the Philippine national basketball team took an unexpected turn on Monday, August 24, when it was revealed that Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson actually acquired a Philippine passport before turning 16-years-old, making him eligible to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas.
Sonny Barrios, the Director of the team, confirmed that Clarkson can actually play, because he is a “natural born” Filipino player.
While this might come as a disappointment to many of us, Clarkson will get ready for training camp with the lakers. The official Season will start on 4th of October against Utah Jazz. And then our first Fillipino Player in the NBA will play with stars like Kobe Bryant to show Fillipono Pride. Lets root for him!

Nowadays, you can see many smart phone brands in the market. Apple, Samsung, Sony, LG,… are the big brands. Smaller brands such as Huawei or Xiaomi are emerging every day, not to mention the brands you may never hear of. So, in a market with high competition, the devices need more and more unique features to catch the attention. One of them is smartphones with 4k display. However, the question is: Does 4k display make any difference?
Much to how attractive and appealing a smart phone with 4k display sounds, there are as many reasons you do not need it, yet.
Top 5 reasons why you don’t need 4k display on smartphones yet
1. You probably won’t notice the difference between FHD & 4k display
Yes, admit it. Everyone else does. Except if you have super eyes, you will not notice any difference between a FHD and a 4k display. Therefore, why bother?
2. 4k display consumes more power, while your phone battery is still not enough
4k display is a technology that eats away your battery. To run it efficiently, either your phone has to have large battery capacity (such as 6000mAh) or you do not use it at all.
3. Current processor might overwork
As stated above, since this is a new feature on smartphones, your current processor might have not been made for this yet. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or even Samsung Exynos may not even handle 4k display probably.
4. Not much 4k content nowadays yet
Much of the content at the moment only support HD to Full HD resolution, 2k is rare, and 4k is super rare.
5. You don’t use a VR device
Most 4k display comes with support for VR devices, such as a VR headset. However, will you carry a VR headset around just to enjoy a limited amount of 4k content? Probably no.
With all 5 reasons above, you can now imagine why most people won’t focus on 4k display on a smartphone, yet. However, as technology is constantly changing, we do not know if 4k display will be the trend, or become just a normal specs on smartphones. Whatever, having a 4k display still seems great, and if mobile manufacturers can make money from a unique feature, then they will sport it on their devices.
Nokia is going to acquire Alcatel-Lucent as part of its revival to the mobile phone business. However, what benefits will the merge bring to both Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent? Recent news show that the CEO of Alcatel-Lucent will receive around 14 million from this merge. Although the deal is not closed yet, it seems this is a wise move for Alcatel-Lucent.
Ever since the announcement, Alcatel-Lucent only has a few months to complete leftover tradings before all the business is taken over by Nokia. And Alcatel-Lucent CEO, upon signing this contract, will receive around 14 millions in bonus for over three years.
However, as France is in crisis, the government calls up Combes (Alcatel-Lucent’s CEO) on this issue. The CEO said this amount is not only for his departure but also for the recovery plan of Alcatel-Lucent as well. The company also announced that Combes has saved it from bankruptcy. And that is what is the most important thing the merge has done for Alcatel-Lucent.
But as for Nokia, what benefits do the Finnish company get? As we all know, Nokia is coming back in 2016. However, Samsung is leading in this market. To get as much workforce and power back to their prime days the last decade, buying smaller companies is a good choice. Moreover, as Alcatel-Lucent already has cooperation with some Chinese firms, which is one of the largest markets, Nokia is going to reserve some upper-hand moves.
Do you know that the new company after Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent’s merge will be based in China?
Whatever it is, Nokia coming back will make many other big names in the mobile world a bit uneasy. Let us wait until 2016 to see if any amazing flagship will be out, and if this merge proves fruitful for both companies. In the mean time, you can check out several articles about upcoming Nokia phone concepts here.
Huawei, the 3rd largest phone manufacturer in the world right now, has been continually unveiling details of Huawei Mate S – its next device. We have heard about things like Force Touch or a curved screen, but it seems Huawei wants to emphasize the function of the fingerprint sensor.
Force Touch on iPhone series now available on Huawei Mate S
Huawei Mate S’s “Incredible Touch” feature will also play an important role on this smart phone. As we have heard, this “Incredible Touch” feature will let users draw on the screen. The shape or letter drawn will execute a command for an app. Though we have seen this kind of “shortcut command” from some Android phones, this is the first time this become a unique feature.
Many people guess 5 fingers mean 5 different and unique functions
Apart from that, Huawei seems to want to compete with Apple on Force Touch. By integrating a fingerprint sensor, which can allows up to 5 functions on a 1cm square point. People guess unlocking phone, payment and many more for these five functions, but nothing is really confirmed yet.
For other specs, Huawei Mate S display may be a 5.7” screen. Moreover, the device will sport 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Huawei Mate S camera is said to be a huge 20MP sensor. Huawei Mate S battery is expected to be a 4500mAh one.
Let us see what kind of technology Huawei is going to show at IFA this year
However, as those are just leaked info and rumors, we do not know if any of them is the truth. IFA 2015 is coming in 2 days, so let us see how much Huawei Mate S can do with its fingerprint sensor. Let us hope that Huawei will unveil more info, so that we can know Huawei Mate S price in the Philippines and its availability soon.

A Instagram user has recently leaked a picture of the upcoming flagship in gold version. Many claim that this is what the Xperia Z5 Premium will look like. The leaking images also show Sony’s new fingerprint sensor that they they feature for these expected beasts.
Attached in this article is a 3-minute French hands-on video that shows you some close-up looks with different angles of the trio Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium. The video is supposed to be officially launched next Wednesday for the announcement of Sony’s biggest flagships of the year.
Although the video is spoken in French and the resolution is not the best (since this is just a leaking version), we still enjoy what is provided: real Xperia Z5 hands on pictures! If anyone of our PricePony readers can understand the conversation, please share with us so everyone can enjoy 🙂
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the most “high-end” version among the three, is expected to feature 5.5” screen with 4K display and amazing 23MP front camera. From the Sony Xperia Z5 hands on that we see, the device has an elegant and classy gold color with typical Sony design.
Sony Xperia Z5 may be the most talked-about among the three. If nothing changes, the Sony Xperia Z5 hands on will come with 4GB of RAM, 4,5000 mAH and 4K video support and 23MP camera.
For now, we don’t know much about the Sony Xperia Z5 compact, yet. But as usual, a “compact” version of a flagship tends to be slightly smaller in size, less premium specs and of course, in return, a more affordable price. So we won’t be surprised if the Xperia Z5 compact will have 3GB of RAM and 3,500 mAH or so.
