Last month, Facebook faced one of their biggest scandals in the history. In details, Facebook claimed Cambridge Analytica that the firm has held onto inappropriately obtained user data through a quiz applications on their site. Previously, the social media speculated that up to 50 million Facebook users had been affected by the leak. However, the actual number released today is going to shock you. According to Facebook’s hand in political engineering, the total number is now more than 87 million people.

On the other hand, in their recent blog post, Facebook shared: “We believe the Facebook information of up to 87 million people—mostly in the US—may have been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica.” As a result, Facebook has also announced that they are going to have many changes to protect users’ private information better. Firstly, Facebook is going to approve all applications which request access to your data. In details, there are check-ins, likes, photos, posts, videos, events and groups activities.

Furthermore, Facebook no longer allows the third-party apps to ask for access to personal information. These data include your religious or political views, relationship status, education and work history, etc. On the other hand, they are going to remove a developer’s ability to request data from people who shared with them. Notably, the removal is going to take place if you have not used the app for the last three months. Additionally, Facebook is going to add a particular link to your News Feed starting next week. Through this new feature, you can control and follow what apps you are currently using, as well as your shared data.

For now, the FTC has begun a non-public investigation into Facebook’s scandal. Moreover, Britain’s information regulators are also currently assessing evidence which they obtained from their recent raid on Cambridge Analytica’s offices in London.
