Exynos 9: The new powerhouse

Last year, Samsung announced 2 variants of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge: one with Snapdragon 820 and the other with Exynos 8. While the Galaxy S8 powered by Snapdragon 835 has been part of major leaks, Samsung has now confirmed development of Exynos 9. So it’s highly likely that the Korean company will repeat the old strategy this year. The Exynos 9 is based on the same 10nm architecture used on Snapdragon 835, so their performance may be similar.

Samsung has already confirmed that it won’t be launching the Galaxy S8 at MWC. However, the company could also use the platform to introduce the Galaxy Tab S3 and the Exynos 9 SoC. Earlier rumours hinted at Samsung working on the Exynos 8895, an octa-core SoC with new Mali-G71 GPU. So now we have to keep our fingers crossed and wait till the end of the month.

As for Galaxy S8 specs, it will feature a 5.8″ 2K display, protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The phone also comes with 4GB RAM and 64/128GB ROM (expandable). Galaxy S8 is mounted with 12MP f/1.7 back camera and an 8MP f/1.7 selfie camera. The back camera is capable of recording 2160p@60fps videos. Galaxy S8 is powered by a 3000mAh battery and it may be available around $850 ~ Rs. 56900.

Exynos 9: Samsung smart move

Apart from developing its own chipset, Samsung has been holding onto the first batch of Snapdragon 835 SoC, forcing other OEMs to delay their flagships or use the old Snapdragon 821 model. This is a smart move by Samsung and has caused lots of trouble for other brands. However, Samsung is also the official manufacturer for the Snapdragon 835 chipset, so delaying the production could harm their profit in the short run.
