Motorola first foldable smartphone is coming soon

Motorola seems not to be left behind in the race for the first foldable smartphone. Hence the new license the company filed recently. Although the patent shows a smartphone that folds into a tablet was registered back in September 2016, it was only approved in March 2018. Creating a truly foldable smartphone is definitely a tremendous and difficult task; not to mention that developing one that’s ready for mass market is even harder.

So the fact that Motorola is working on a device that can switch from a smartphone to a tablet seems surprising; but yet close to be impossible. “With the new technology, especially foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design. So hopefully what you just described [the Motorola Razr brand] will debut very soon.” – said Yang Yuanqing, Motorola CEO.

However, the hook in the middle of the smartphone/tablet device doesn’t sound like an easy solution. As a matter of fact, it looks pretty similar to ZTE Axon M foldable smartphone that features dual screen display. The copyright filing contains information about a cover that should not only protect the device but also as a wireless charger. We are not sure how actual the handset described in Motorola‘s patent still is compared to today’s standards; since they registered that two years ago. But the important thing is that more and more companies are trying to bring new ideas and innovations to the industry.
