Ranu Mandal: the rising Bollywood star!

A few months ago, Ranu Mariah Mandal used to sing regularly on a railway platform, located in West Bengal’s Ranaghat railway station in Nadia district. While singing her heart out, Ranu doesn’t know that a big change is coming to her life. During one of her performances, someone has recorded her singing ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’ from the 1972 film Shor. When posted on social media, the short video immediately caught the attention of many people and went viral with millions of views!

Many people who were impressed by her voice took to the Internet to share their thoughts. “She must have gone through a lot in life. Singing with so much sentimental emotion. God Bless her and keep her happy,” – a comment shared in the post. Another user also shared their opinion on the way she sang. “So much pain in her eyes, I guess the soulful voice says about her life, God bless her I’ve her life back. Prayers,”. However, her story didn’t end here.

Another page continued to share a video of Ranu Mandal singing the Lata Mangeshkar classic, “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon”. Fortunately, these videos caught the attention of a Mumbai-based entertainment channel. The prominent playback singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan had managed to send a talent hunt to locate her. In several photos after, we can see Ranu getting a makeover at a parlor, getting ready to participate in a music reality show. What a life-changing opportunity! “This is nothing but destiny. Till the other day, nobody knew Ranu and, a few days later, she became an Internet star in West Bengal. And today, the Hindi film industry has beckoned her,” said an observer.

Taking the Bollywood by storm, how does she feel?

“From my childhood, I had a passion for listening to music and singing along. Although I liked Mohammad Rafi and Mukeshji’s songs, it was Lata Mangeshkar who inspired me a lot. I could relate to her singing and the melody always touched my heart,” Ranu Mandal says.
