New Xperia Home launcher is coming your way.

A few days ago, news broke out that Sony was going to stop the development of its own Xperia Home launcher that ships with every Sony smartphone. This week, a moderator on the Xperia Home Open Beta Community announced earlier that the firm has decided to discontinue the current version. So it can focus on building a brand new Home launcher. Moreover, the company has also planned to close the Beta program for the launcher.

The information seemed strange at the time, but now Erika Prymus, a developer part of the Xperia Home team, has cleared the confusion. She explained that Sony is now focusing on a new Xperia Home app. Unfortunately, we don’t know what it will look like or what new features it will bring to the table yet. We’re guessing it will likely arrive with all of the new gesture controls baked into the latest Android P.

Perhaps, that’s the reason why Sony decided to start from scratch and get rid of the old system. On a side note, let’s check out the company’s upcoming beast – Xperia XZ3. Regarding the display, the Xperia XZ3 specs pack a 5.7-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. On the other hand, the Xperia XZ3 gets power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with 6GB RAM and two ROM options: 64GB/ 128GB. In addition, there is a MicroSD card that can expand the storage up to 400GB.

Will Sony be able to survive this software battle?

The new Sony Xperia Home launcher should be available for both current Xperia smartphones and future models. Now all Sony needs to do in this heating battle among other manufacturers is bringing its hardware in line. And it could stand a chance of scraping back the millions of customers it’s lost to its rivals over the course of the last decade. Stay tuned with us for more updates!
