Nokia 2016: Fires up to 15000 people

We have some bad news for Nokia Fans worldwide. Nokia will need to save more then $1 billion in 2016 and to reach this goal Nokia will cut massively into their worldwide workforce…

nokia 2016

Recently Nokia finalized their Merger with Alcatel-Lucent SA. Following the Nokia 2016 Merger, Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri announced end of last year the need to reduce Nokia’s yearly cost by 900 Million Euro, or 1 Billion USD per year. Mostly Nokia will reduce overlapping products, services and sales positions after paying $18 Billion for Alcatel. According to people familiar with the plan Nokia plans to let go off 10-15000 people, out of 104.000. That is a very significant staff reduction of nearly 15%.

Most of the Jobs will be cut in Europe, with Nokia Finland and Nokia Germany taking the major cuts. France will keep most of their jobs, due to prior Nokia promises. “This was a match between France and Finland,” said Pertti Porokari, head of the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland and “Finland lost.”
Back in 2000 Nokia Finland had 24000 people when they were dominating the Global Smartphone Market. This number has dropped to 7000 after the Microsoft deal and will drop further now.

The reductions are aimed at helping Nokia 2016 to cope with a challenging business environment in 2016 and intense competition from China’s Huawei Technologies Co. Wireless Carriers worldwide are decreasing spend in 4G Technology, the main business of Nokia-Alcatel. Most of the Jobs will be cut in Europe, with Finland, Germany and France taking the major hit.

Nokia recently bought healthcare manufacturer Withings and might even make a comback to Nokia Phones in 2016 to cash in on their brand value. Source Bloomberg

Nokia Withings: Nokia is buying health firm Withings for $191 million

After selling its profitable Lumia division to Microsoft, Nokia seems to step up their game as they plan on the Nokia Withings affair – buying digital health company called Withings for € 170 ($191 million) in cash. This act has shown the firm’s ambition of re-entering the consumer market, especially digital health segment.

Nokia Withings: re-emerge the consumer market

When Nokia sold the mobile segment for Microsoft two years ago, many people believed that they were burying the coffin in which contain one of the giants of the consumer technology industry in the world. However, digital health was an area of strategic interest to Nokia, and they were now taking concrete action to tap the opportunity in this large and important market, said Rajeev Suri, president & CEO of Nokia in a press stament.

Withings is a French consumer electronics company and was founded in 2008. It has 200 employees and health-care products including activity trackers, weighing scales, thermometers, blood pressure monitors, home and baby monitors and more. They are soon will be added into Nokia ‘s wearables and fitness devices portfolio. Withings is a prerequisite for Nokia transforming itself into a leader of the Internet of Things ecosystem.

Nokia showed that it had the power to create compelling products proven by the introduction N1 tablet last year . Unfortunately, it did not expand distribution channels of this product outside the borders of China and Taiwan . Withings will give Nokia the chance to rebuild their capacity to design and introduce their image to young people. As for Withings, a 8-year-old firm, $191 million is not a small number and it could be a good deal for them. This Nokia Withings cooperation might be a major turning point for both parties.

Nokia Withings: challenging

However , the return of Nokia is forecasted not to be easy . Nokia has lost most of the designers , engineers and talented professionals while selling their segment for Microsoft . Others – those who did not want to work for Microsoft – has established a company themselves in the same field or try another one. So, what do you think about this Nokia Withings business affair, will it work for Nokia? Let us know in the comment section.

Reasons why iPhone 7 Plus will beat Nokia Android smartphone

H2 of 2016, especially towards the end of the year, will be much busier than now since many big brands such as Apple, and Nokia will release their flagships. According to what we know so far, Apple will probably introduce a handset called iPhone 7 Plus equipped with many advanced features. Furthermore, it is even said to be able to defeat Nokia’s upcoming device thanks to sporting a gorgeous design and powerful specifications.

Speaking specifically, the phone has appeared in a 3D video render lately, showing a beautiful machine with redesigned antenna lines and a dual camera setup on the back. Besides, it boasts a magnetic smart connector, a big dual speaker, a Lightning port, but no audio jack. Anyway, we’re absolutely happy with this iPhone 7 Plus’s appearance. How about you?

In terms of iPhone 7 Plus specs, it is likely that the phone will own a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED screen, 3D Touch tech, a 5MP front-facing snapper, a physical home button with a fingerprint sensor underneath, and a USB Type-C port. In addition, iPhone 7 Plus is expected to run on iOS 10 and employ an Apple A10 chip paired with 16/64/128/256GB ROM. For the rest of the hardware, we still need to wait a bit more for a full sheet of specs.

iPhone 7 Plus price and availability

Basing on Apple’s tradition, we predict that iPhone 7 Plus will debut together with iPhone 7 in the Q3 of 2016. Additionally, we cannot say it will be launched with an affordable price because… it is impossible, rite?! Though, it should not get over $900, do you agree? So, with what has been listed above, do you think iPhone 7 Plus can win the race?

A Nokia smartphone would be a bad idea

A Nokia smartphone launched in 2016 is being anticipated by a lot of people out there. However, there unavoidably verdicts around this matter. Specifically, Android Authority recently had an article claiming that…

Nokia smartphone

“A Nokia smartphone would be a bad idea”

In their article, Android Authority explained the reasons why they don’t think a new Nokia smartphone will do well in the market of today. Before moving to our discussion, let me briefly wrap up the original idea from the source. First of all, after a while absent from the market, it would take Nokia a long time and tough road to catch up with the pace. Secondly, with other brands having their own names growing fast, the competition will be real harsh on Nokia. Moreover, the company had failed once at the last smartphones made with Microsoft. This means a new and very careful strategy is a must to change their situation and do magic this time.

The points mentioned in the original sound very convincing. When you carefully consider our market right now, you may also agree that the situation does not seem very beneficial for Nokia. For the years Nokia was, other companies thrived to prove their product quality and became more and more popular among users. Moreover, being absent for such a long time should turn Nokia into a complete stranger: they don’t know how the latest Android works, they don’t actually know how a phone is produced.

Nokia smartphone

Familiarity to the users, trusted reviews from previous products, updated trendy features suitable to its price. These are things Nokia definitely lacks. This make Nokia look like very unready for the game ahead. However, with a long time of experience from the past, a huge brand name that everyone loves and trust, will Nokia make miracle this time?

A Nokia smartphone: the pressure is intense

The return of giant will mark a very important event to our smartphone market. Excited as we are, many are still worried for their favorite brand, since the competition is definitely tough in 2016. Which side are you in? Is a Nokia smartphone at this time a good or bad idea?

Nokia – Alcatel deal: Nokia plans global contructions

About to end their contract with Microsoft and following their merger with Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia hints that the company is planing to reconstruct their global business strategy

Nokia CEO

Nokia – Alcatel deal: 14% job cut to save money

Recently, reliable reports from Reuters and Bloomberg have unveiled that, Nokia is planning to save more thang $1 billion annually following its merger with Alcatel – the networking hardware company. According to that, the company will cut off 10,000 to 15,000 current staff worldwide. This is equivalent to 14% of Nokia workforce (they are hiring around 104,000 employees globally). Exclusively in their hometown, the Finnish giant is believe to be firing up to 1,300 out of 6,850 current people.

Nokia spokesperson claimed that they are targeting to save up to 900 million euros ($1.02 billion) of operation cost with this clearance by 2018, in agreement with Alcatel deal. However, the spokesperson refuse to give any further information or comment about this issue. In a statement, Nokia CEO Rajiv said that they will be meeting with workers from over 30 countries in the coming weeks. The cut will also help to support Nokia in competing with other rivals in the intense market of 2016, especially Huawei, reported Bloomberg.

Nokia CEO

“It’s too early to discuss any global reduction figure as we are only now starting the country-specific processes, and these will proceed according to local legislation and practices,” Nokia said. Still, these reports are definitely not good news for current staff working at Nokia anywhere in the world.

Nokia – Alcatel deal: challenge be waiting

Much as we are expecting the come back of this giant, we can’t stop our curiosity in how the company will be planning their future strategy, according to Nokia – Alcatel deal. No matter what decision they are about to make, we do hope it would be a wise move. As the smartphone market in 2016 will be more intense than ever, with the fast growing of Chinese brands like Huawei, and the non stop development of other big brands like Apple, Samsung etc, Nokia will surely be facing a lot of challenge. (Source: Bloomberg and Reuters)

It is said to be a mid-range device sporting capacitive keys on the front surface and a brushed/pained plastic back. Nokia CEO: We are looking for a right partner

It is no longer a surprise for us all that, Nokia is prepping their grand come back in the end of this year, 2016. And it has been a huge concern for Nokia fans to get to know what would likely be the next smartphone from the giant.

Nokia

Nokia CEO: we are working on a premium smartphone

Back in June 2015, Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri had made an official announcement to confirm that, the company will return to producing smartphones, after their agreement with Microsoft is over, in Q4 2016. And in responding to public curiosity, Suri said that, the company is working on a premium smartphone and looking for a right partner to cooperate in producing their flagships. Specifically, Suri said: “There’s no specific time frame. We don’t need to be in a rush. We will explore this with the right partner or partners, depending on the case.”

By saying that, not only did Nokia CEO cleverly stimulate the interest from their fans and tech lovers around the world, but they also nailed it in keeping the company’s secret going, making the come back more of high expectation than ever. Up to now, there have been more than one alleged renders of the potential Nokia smartphones, some of which are very realistic that could easily be directly mass-produced. And a premium smartphone with a big battery and an awesome Pureview camera sensor.

Nokia CEO

And in order to prepare for this huge event, Nokia is looking for one or more partners to work with them, in terms of manufacturing their upcoming phones. That also explains why we don’t know any fixed day for the possible announcement of this flagship yet. But as long as it was confirmed by the company, it is worth waiting (and saving) for.

Nokia smartphone 2016: a battery and camera flagship

In our previous articles, we have mentioned some alleged smartphones Nokia could be working on, two of which are high-end mobiles: Nokia N73 with Snapdragon 820 and Nokia C1 with 4GB RAM and 20MP Pureview camera. The question being ask right now, would either of these become that long-awaited 2016 Nokia flagship?

Nokia U – The best Nokia smartphone for YOU!

“Why not let the public design the kind of phone they would actually like?” Yes, Nokia came up with something like a competition called Design by Community and it did draw much attention from people trying to create “the ultimate concept device”. In the end, the winner was Nokia U. We won’t be surprised if this model comes along with the Nokia comeback at the end of 2016. It is made for us and by us, rite?!

Looking at the handset, it seems very sleek with a 4.0-inch 16:9 touchscreen and an aluminium body plus soft touch silver/black finish. Spec-wise, there is an auto lens cover hiding an 8MP camera with 4X optical zoom, a dual LED plus Xenon flash on the back. However, we think the main sensor can be changed into a 21MP equipped with PureView tech. More interesting, the Nokia U is said to be able to support multiple operating systems, which means you can totally choose Android if you like.

For other Nokia U specs, we hope to see a Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or a MediaTek’s deca-core chip (such as Helio X20 or X25), an 8MP selfie shooter, an at least 3,000mAh battery supporting fast charging technology, 3/4GB of RAM paired with 128GB of internal storage (expandable). They would make the perfect!

Nokia U price and availability

With such an excellent package of specifications, appearance and meaning of its name, Nokia U is worth being one of the best smartphones of the year. Although its cost as well as release date has not been mentioned, we predict it can be priced at around $300. Do you think it is reasonable? Share with us your opinions!
