5 Nokia world’s records that you never knew before

Nokia has been the topic to talk about everywhere these days. With 150 year of history and still growing, Nokia definitely proved their name in the smartphone industry. After years of absence, the piece of news that Nokia is coming back in 2016 has excited users worldwide…

Nokia world's records

5 Best Nokia Smartphones World’s records

However, beside being the legend in the mobile technology, there are much more stories about Nokia hidden here and there that not everybody knows. That is why I want to get you guys to know more about Nokia fun (and admirable) facts.

1. The most listened to ringtone in the world

It is the famous Nokia tune: Grand Valse. The tune was written in 1902 by Spanish composer Francisco Tarrega, Anssi Vanjoki along with Lauri Kivinen. Such melody have been used so widely and for such a long time that I bet most of us can hum along. It has been estimated that the Grand Valse is heard worldwide more or less 1,8 billion times a day.

2. The world’s first and most popular mobile game

I bet most of us still can not forget the snake game first introduced to the Nokia 6100 series. The game is pre-installed into over 350 million Nokia phones and mobile devices all around the world. However, the game stops being published several years ago.

3. The world’s best selling phone

Yes, you are right. It is the Nokia 1100 – a featured phone launched in 2003.  Since then, 250 million units of Nokia 1100 were reported to ship all over the world, making it the best selling phone and electronic device ever.

4. The biggest cinema screen in the world.

Yes, as I mentioned above, Nokia is not just about phone. The company once produced a cinema screen so big that it had to be seen from outside. Measuring 51 x 28 meters (1,428 meter square), the Nokia biggest cinema screen weighted about 140 kilos.

5. The world’s most anticipated come back

Nokia come back – although not being statistically  proven, is definitely the most anticipated ever found worldwide. Nokia reputation, together with their long term absence, together with endless rumors and leaking, are what contributed to attract more and more people into the “waiting team” Nokia rocks! I love them more for these 5 Nokia world’s records. Count me in, I am looking forward to their come back!

Nokia C1 VS Lumia 950XL: most awaited smartphones from BIGGEST legends

Nokia and Microsoft: once working together under the same name – now have their own ways of business. We put their most anticipated smartphones under comparison: Nokia C1 VS Lumia 950XL.

nokia c1
Nokia C1 spotted in the wild

Nokia C1 is said to be the first Nokia Android-based smartphone when the Giant comes back in 2016 after years of absence. Lumia 950XL, on the other hand is considered the most premium Microsoft smartphone produced in the last quarter of 2015 that runs on Windows 10 OS.

Let’s take a closer look at both device.

Nokia C1 VS Lumia 950XL: availability and specs

A render image of Nokia C1 smartphone was first leaked earlier last month, in September 2015. By spotting the device in the wild, Nokia fans have been more excited than ever. Nokia C1 is said to be the first ever Nokia Android smartphone. Some Nokia C1 specs rumored by now include: a handy 5” display, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage. The Nokia C1 cameras will hopefully be 8MP/5MP or higher.

We have been guessing that the Nokia C1 price in Philippines at launch date in 2016 will be in our most favorite category: sub PHP 15K.

Microsoft Lumia 950XL
Microsoft Lumia 950XL

In opposite, Lumia 950XL is Microsoft’s high end flagship for 2015. The company even promoted this beast as “The most productive phone you’ve ever picked up”. In terms of Lumia 950XL specs, we got a combination of the best in our market: 5.7”, 3GB RAM, 20MP Pureview, Snapdragon 810. This makes the Lumia 950XL price in Philippines much higher than its counterpart: around PHP 25K.

Nokia C1 VS Lumia 950XL: popular Android VS signature Windows 10

While Nokia decided to “go with the wind” – picking the popular Android, Microsoft still goes on their own way by featuring Windows 10 OS. Personally, I find both strategies reasonable. The popularity can guarantee Nokia’s chance of success when coming back, but hard to impress and make a “legend”. On the other hand, Windows 10 OS will help build Microsoft’s signature in the smartphone industry but may limit the number of interested users.

Nokia C1 VS Lumia 950XL: Mid-range VS higher-end flagships

Targeted at the mid-range market share, I bet Nokia wants their come back to reach the widest range of potential customers possible.

Featuring a premium flagship, Microsoft might want to propose their ability in producing such high-quality product. Also, this could be a nice move to prove how competitive they can be in this fast-growing industry.

Closing note

Whether coming up or already available, both Nokia C1 VS Lumia 950XL are highly anticipated devices. One is loved and expected because of the wait for a legend’s reborn. One is appreciated for its high quality and the courage to go on its own way. No matter what strategies each company is having, they both are amazingly successful brands – and as a result – their devices are among the best you can ever found.

Nokia come back is set in 2016, but did you know about these 5 facts?

It has been a while since we had sight of the last Nokia phones. The legendary giant has disappeared for a long time, being missed by so many users around the world. However, it has been confirmed that Nokia come back is set to happen in 2016 – which is just several months ahead from now.

Nokia come back

As the big day is approaching closer and closer, rumors started to flow intensively. Personally, I feel that it is quite easy to get confused by so many different sources of news surrounding us. And that motivated me to come up with this articles. I want to share with you the following main points about the Nokia come back historic event. Here are (mostly) all you need to know about such day!

1. Nokia’s contract with Microsoft ends

In 2011, Nokia and Microsoft signed a contract, marking the start of their partnership. According to the contract, Nokia only featured smartphones that ran on Windows OS and emphasized on their premium camera quality.

In 2013, Nokia agreed not to use its name on smartphones and will not produce any mobile devices under the Nokia name till December 31st, 2015. (Source: Wikipedia)

2. Nokia buys Alcatel

In preparation for the crucial Nokia comeback, the Giant proposed to buy Alcatel and got approved by European regulators. However, Alcatel (full name: Alcatel-Lucent) is not a smartphone producer. It is actually a French global telecommunications equipment company, headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. Being a monster in the tech industry, Alcatel is believed to help provide the best technology for upcoming Nokia smartphones.

3. Nokia seeking for talents

Since 2013, Nokia became a department under the control of Microsoft. This means, they were no longer an independent company. As a result, mostly all of Nokia employees back then came to work for Microsoft. In order to have a well-prepared Nokia come back, the Finnish Legend are extensively looking for new talents to join their promising business.

4. Nokia to rebuild best-selling phones in the past?

Recently on PricePony, I featured the best-selling ever Nokia 1100. This was not a non-purposed topic. In fact, rumors have it said that, on their come back, Nokia is planning to bring back some good old phones of their past business. Of course this time, they will make it “smart” to catch up with the fast-growing market we have now.

5. Nokia to feature Android-powered smartphone

We all know how much users these days love Android-powered smartphones. And by knowing about the Nokia come back, I have heard it over and over again that our readers would love the first Nokia smartphone in 2016 to run on Android. Here is the good news: Nokia seems to actually plan the same thing.

I bet you still remember the Android Nokia C1 smartphone we spotted several months earlier? Yes, that is the best message Nokia come back can hint for us. Keep hoping, we may actually have a Nokia Android smartphone soon

Do you know this Nokia 1100 is the best-selling phone in the world?

I bet that long before knowing about the first iPhone or those glorious smartphones we have in the market nowadays, we have all had a Nokia handset for once at least. When asked which is the best-selling mobile device, many people can tell it is a Nokia. But not every one can tell exactly which unit. Here it is, the super star of our mobile industry – Nokia 1100 – best selling smartphone EVER around the world.

Nokia 1100

12 years ago, in late 2003, Nokia launched the 1100 – a basic phone that had no camera or touch screen. Instead, the Nokia 1100 – targeted for the fast-growing Chinese market initially, came with a torch light, a solid body that could break the floor when dropped, and a dust-proof case.

It has been reported that, in just 3 months, the famous iPhone 6 has sold 71.5 million units. Then how much more did the Nokia 1100 sell to keep the record? In about five years, 250 million units of Nokia 1100 were reported to ship all over the world. (And yes, back in the 2000s, 250 millions is not at all a “small” number). With this consumption, Nokia 1100 is not only the world’s best-selling phone, but also top the quantity of electronics devices worldwide in general! WOW

Nokia’s one billionth phone sold was a 1100 purchased in Nigeria in 2005!

So what does the Nokia 1100 have to make people so crazy about? Here are some quick facts about the legendary handset

1. Nokia 1100 price –> Amazingly Affordable

Although we can not retrieve the exact price of Nokia 1100 by launch date back in 2003, it was known to be very affordable, even for the living standards 12 years ago.

We found an Indian article published in August 2003, suggesting that the Nokia 1100 price back then was Rs 4000 (Which is $60 now and much cheaper then)

2. Nokia 1100 design –> Impressively Interesting

Nokia 1100 was only 86g in weight and featured anti-slip sides that offered a firmer grip and made it dust-resistant. They Nokia 1100 keys are also soft (faster to type) and dust-proof. And the cover is  interchangeable, way too cool!

3. Nokia 1100 battery –> FOREVER LASTING!

Nokia 1100 battery was 850 mAH. Wait, don’t judge yet ! It lasted up to 400 hours between charging times. Yes! That made the Nokia 1100 like a never-running-out-of-battery phone!

4. Nokia 1100 SNAKE GAME –>Part of your best memories

Yes!!! Be honest, you can never forget the legendary Snake game on this Nokia 1100, can you? Compared to nowadays’ magical Candy Crush or CoC, the Snake game is nothing to compare. But back then, it was the only mobile game that every one played. And it made 250 million people happy! That’s more than enough!

5. Nokia 1100 feature – best of its time!

With a size of a 2 match box, the Nokia 1100 had a built-in flashlight, a stopwatch, an alarm, a vibrating alert, 50 message capacity, 50 contact slots, 42 monophonic ringtones (36 pre-installed, 7 user-made). If you have lived through 2003, you will know what wonder was called that time.

Closing note

I bet you did, or at least, know some one who used to have one Nokia 1100 years ago (or it may even survived until now). Share this post to those who you grew up with and those who this Nokia 1100 reminds you of!

Nokia C1 Winner of Design

As Nokia will return to the market in 2016 we have been seeing a lot of upcoming Nokia smartphones around. This time we want to show you the live images of Nokia C1, an Nokia Android smartphone that is inspired from an already released Nokia tablet. This Nokia C1, according to the news, will likely be Nokia’s new smartphone for 2016. And what makes it very appealing is that, the Nokia C1 will have a mid-range price tag.

Nokia is still having their secret well kept about the official Nokia C1 specs. However, from the leaks, we now know that the Nokia C1 display will sport a 5.5″ FHD Screen. As a mid-ranger, Nokia C1 will feature 4GB RAM  and 16GB internal storage. The Nokia C1 camera is said to be an 20MP Pureview combined with a 8 MP selfie shooter, which reminds us of Nokia E1. Also, a 64-BIT Mediatek CPU is expected to keep the price low and the performance high.

Nokia C1 smartphone

We really  think this is a smart move of Nokia, when featuring both the C1 and E1 as budget bugs on their comeback, since it clearly reaches a wider range of customers, making it easier to sell. The Android-powered Nokia C1 with 5.5″ FHD, 4GB RAM and 20MP Pureview surely has what it takes to be a best seller 2016!

Nokia C1 Price – Super Affordable

As for the Nokia C1 Price, although Nokia has not finalized yet, we can expect a 200 to 250 USD tag.  Pretty nice for a device from a big brand, don’t you think? You can check out other Nokia phone here or some news about the company for the upcoming NOKIA Phones COMEBACK in 2016.

The Nokia E1 is such a unique one with has a totally different design and has zero relation with any Lumia devices. As Nokia and Microsoft’s contract coming to and end, a new feature phone has been released. Nokia 222 is the eye-candy device that gives you not only the nostalgic feeling of a Nokia classic, but also great usage.

Moreover, Nokia 222 weighs only 79g, an ideal weight and size for someone who wants to put it in their pockets.

Nokia 222 runs on the Series 30+ OS. The phone features 16MB RAM, enough to handle most tasks. Nokia 222 can record up to 1000 phone entries. It does not have internal storage though, so you need to use a microSD card (up to 32GB).

Microsoft cuts 2300 jobs from Nokia’s mobile department

Microsoft, the owner of Windows series and many kinds of computer devices, has began their restructuring process in 2015. It seems in this busy market, when things do not go well, jobs get cut. However, this time, Microsoft fires a big number of Nokia employees. Therefore, what really happens? Do the Nokia employees not do well at their assigned jobs? Alternatively, is it Microsoft’s fault?

Job-Jobs-Cut-Cuts-600x400 Microsoft begins their restructuring plan by cutting off 2300 jobs

Microsoft has been having difficulties with mobile sales ever since they released the Lumia series. Though many people raise the simplicity of Windows phones, other factors prevent them to make big hit in the market.

Microsoft-Lumia-535-1a Lumia series do not earn much for the company

After acquiring Nokia back from 2014, Microsoft also acquired around 32000 Nokia employees. This big number means that if Microsoft is to cut more jobs, those employees will be the first. Recently, Microsoft has planned to close NOKIA Oyj, the department in Finland. This starts their restructuring plan of cutting 7800 jobs, mostly from Nokia mobiles.

microsoft_layoffs What will happen to those Nokia employees

However, as Nokia is returning to the market next year, it seems there is not much to worry. Nokia has been a big name and reliable brand. Therefore, if a Nokia flagship marks its return, there are no doubt Nokia employees will eventually get their jobs back.

On a side note, Microsoft has just released another feature phone called Nokia 222. This phone display is a 2.4’’ screen. It has a 2MP camera and a dual sim version. Nokia 222 runs on the Series 30+ OS. Nokia 222 price in Philippines will be around PHP 1.7k.

You can take a look a some photos of Nokia 222 below. The feature phone is beautiful and absolutely a nice budget phone.

Nokia recruiting talents, planning further for their coming back!

Though Nokia sold their mobile division to the Redmond-based company, it seems like nothing can stop them to come back to the mobile market next year. Once the non-compete deal between Microsoft and Nokia ends, they will return to producing phones, but perhaps in co-operation with with someone else.

Right now, Nokia is planning for a brand licensing model of their own and putting much effort in finding human resources for making the upcoming machine. We say this because not long ago, Nokia was caught advertising many new jobs on LinkedIn network. Some of the positions are related to product development, while some of other are for engineers focusing on Android. This makes us think that Nokia will enter the Android smartphone field in the future.

On the other hand, we can see that Nokia wants to experiment something new besides regaining  the success they used to have. One example is Nokia N1, which is an Foxconn-made tablet coming with good specs and design. Furthermore, we all know that it is the very first device to sport a USB Type-C port, a feature that most smartphone brands are intending to equip their handsets with. Despite the limited markets for Nokia N1, it is still a great way to step into this new business area. Apart from the Nokia N1, their new projects include Z Launcher and Virtual Reality camera.

Source: tinhte

ZLauncher is a new interface for all Android phones of Nokia. Currently, it has just been released with a beta version. It is really easy to use ZLaunch. It has a quickly searching function that you can use only one finger to launch the program or content you need.

https://youtu.be/WxLUrRZ2eIs

Nokia N1 runs on Nokia ZLauncher!

As for the Nokia VR camera, actually it is named Nokia OZO and described as “the first commercially available virtual reality (VR) camera designed and built for professional content creators and the first in a planned portfolio of digital media solutions from Nokia Technologies, the company’s advanced technology and licensing business.” With this camera, you can capture stereoscopic 3D video in 360-degree panoramas. And if having VR headsets, you can watch videos with a feeling like you are in the middle of the action. Sounds great!

So, in conclusion, we are glad that Nokia is taking many moves to prepare for their return in 2016 by starting hiring many talents for the company and thinking of new interesting things. Hope a new Nokia machine will be coming soon!

Lumia 940 & 940XL: year end flagships with Snapdragon 810, 3GB RAM and 20MP camera

Microsoft is planning to release three smartphones this year end, and we already know that they will be the Lumia Trio : Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL, together with Lumia 840. However, since Microsoft wants to issue some orders, the phones will be Lumia 940 and Lumia 940XL instead, following their predecessor Lumia 930.

Lumia930-Hero-in-line

Lumia 930

Lumia 940 display will be a 5.2 inch screen with the resolution of 1440 x 2560 p. The phone will have a pixel density of 565ppi. Moreover, Lumia 940 specs have some awesome details to look at, such as a Snapdragon 808 SOC and a hexa-core 1.8GHz processor will power up the device. 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage are available from the start. Lumia 940 battery is 3000mAh.

Moreover, Lumia 940 camera is a 20MP one, which is huge since it is a flagship.

lumia-940-moi-2-1

Lumia 940 will sport a very powerful hardware.

Lumia 940XL, as the name suggest, is the bigger version of Lumia 940. Lumia 940XL display will be a 5.7 inch screen, but with its QHD resolution the pixel density become lower: 515ppi. Lumia 940XL hardware specs are better as well, with Snapdragon 810 as the chipset and an octa core 2GHz processor. It will be equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage either. However, Lumia 940XL battery is higher, being 3300mAh. The camera specs stay the same.

Lumia 940XL is the bigger version of Lumia 940 with enhanced specs.

The last of the trio will be named Lumia 840, which could be a mid range handset. Since it is considered a mid range phone, it seems Lumia 840 display will come at 5 inch. The phone will have DUAL SIM option. Lumia 840 camera is rumoured to be the Pureview 13MP one. As Lumia 840 design would be familiar to that of Lumia 830, a front facing 5MP camera would be there as well.

lumia950xl

Moreover, Microsoft plans to move the capacity touch screen on the bezel to the screen on Lumia 940 and Lumia 940XL. They state that it would prevent accidental pressing. Pretty neat for the thought. We do not know Lumia 940 & 940XL price or Lumia 840 price in the Philippines yet, but let’s wait until they are released.
