Extending the battery life by 50 percent or more, higher speed loading programs, more efficient storage space usage &#8211; these optimization Apps promise a lot. But are these really necessary for phone users or are these just empty promises? GPS consumes\u00a0a lot of battery<\/h4>\n<p>If the GPS Receiver is active it consumes about 500 mW but only about half a milliwatt in stand-by mode. For comparison, the touch screen of a smartphone consumes about 300 to 1,500 mW and \u00a0a download via WLAN around 500 to 1200 mW. So, if there is no app that constantly polls the current location, the shutdown of GPS saves almost no battery power.
