3. GPS consumes a lot of battery

If the GPS Receiver is active it consumes about 500 mW but only about half a milliwatt in stand-by mode. For comparison, the touch screen of a smartphone consumes about 300 to 1,500 mW and  a download via WLAN around 500 to 1200 mW. So, if there is no app that constantly polls the current location, the shutdown of GPS saves almost no battery power. In short, this is a saving measure that is definitely unnecessary.
