Xiaomi Mi 8 First Impression: More than another iPhone X lookalike!

Since the release of the iPhone X, many smartphone manufacturers have been following this flagship’s notch design and bezel-less screen. This June, Xiaomi has joined the race with their premium device Xiaomi Mi 8. In term of the outlook, our Xiaomi Mi 8 first impression is quite good. In details, the Xiaomi Mi 8 specs include a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED panel of full HD resolution with the new 19:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the Xiaomi device comes with a notch display on the front, quite similar to iPhone X.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 8 notch is quite more prominent than other Android devices’ ones. Additionally, this area also holds a particular infrared sensor to allow face unlock even at night. However, it is a bit different from the 3D face detection which we see on the iPhone X. One feature stands out from our Xiaomi Mi 8 first impression is the glossy glass panel on the back. Moreover, we can also see that this Xiaomi Mi 8 camera includes a vertically aligned dual rear snappers system at the corner.

Below that, there is a  fingerprint sensor. On the front, the Xiaomi Mi display is mostly bezel-less. Besides, the HDR10 compliant panel supports the DCI-P3 colour gamut, something that the iPhone X has. Furthermore, there is also MIUI 9.5 inside. On the other hand, Xiaomi has added some AI-centric features including their version of a voice assistant. For now, this is only available in China. Lastly, we can see that the Xiaomi camera also has AI support. In details, the Xiaomi phone has dual 12MP cameras at the back (f/1.8), while the selfie lens has a 20MP front shooter that also seemed quite capable of taking selfies enhances with AI.
