Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 710 Platform

Recently, Qualcomm has just unveiled the Snapdragon 710 chip, the first entry in its 700 mobile platform series. The company is holding to the same promises with the 710 that it first promoted when it announced the line in February. That includes double the AI performance compared to the previous Snapdragon 660. Also, Qualcomm says it should offer improvements in a variety of applications from voice-based user interfaces to photography.

Snapdragon 710 smartphones will also be the first Qualcomm platforms to support 4K resolution. Under the hood, the chip is built on a 10nm architecture. With that, Qualcomm promises an overall 20% performance boost more than the Snapdragon 660 version; along with a huge reduction of power consumption while playing games or watching videos on smartphones.

In the end, we have an interesting mix of features: some improvements on the 600 series, some trickled down from the 800 line. To this point, it’s safe to say that this chip is more powerful than the existing midrange options have offered until now. In our opinion, this 710 processor is more of an international gamble for Qualcomm. It is specifically targeting at midrange Android phones from companies like Xiaomi and Vivo; as opposed to the US market where expensive flagships are pretty much the only dictator in the area. From that perspective, offering more powerful upgrades to lower-budget Android phones at a cheaper price range could achieve success in a way that the candidates like Galaxy S9 or Google Pixel 2 haven’t.

Snapdragon 710 release date

Users don’t have to wait for long. Qualcomm has announced that the first phones equipped with the Snapdragon 710 chipset should be out sometime in the second quarter of 2018.
