More smartphones nowadays are trying to make the screen bigger, and in turn get rid of the physical home button. Now, there is a new Synaptics sensor that will make a home button-less future comes quicker!
New Synaptics sensor will boost bezel-less screens!
Synaptics has recently introduced a new type of fingerprint sensor. This new Synaptics sensore has the codename Natural ID FS9100, and it has a lot of advantages over the old one. Those include being super thin in size, more power efficient, and it is embedded under a layer of glass. It is also scratchproof, waterproof, and can be used with wet fingers. Such features will be very beneficial to users in the future, when this technology is applied.
Many people have anticipated he arrival of this new technology for a long time, and this Natural ID FS9100 may just be the start. According to Synaptics, this new sensor can scan fingerprint at a high definition via a 1mm layer of glass. This means that it can be placed virtually anywhere, like right below the screen, the front layer of glass, the 2,5D glass, or the bezel below. This means that manufacturers will be able to remove the physical home button completely, or other specific button dedicated for fingerprint scanning!
Furthermore, this new Synaptics sensor also prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from happening, due to the layer of glass that protects it. Also, thanks to the glass, the durability of this sensore is also enhanced. As for security, FS9100 will use the latest technology of Synaptics, called PurePrint. This technology will make use of artificial intelligent (AI) to differentiate between authentic and fake fingerprints. This will be a very big step to securing smartphones even more!
