Qualcomm Snapdragon 835: to be manufactured using 10nm tech

Back to October, Samsung has informed that the company has invested a large amount of money on new 10nm chipset technology. Back in time, this new chipset technology was expected to be used to produce Snapdragon 830 processor. Now, Samsung are officially manufacturing the new chipset for Qualcomm. However, the name of this upcoming processor has changed a little which is Snapdragon 835 instead of 830 as expected.

Samsung will apply cutting edge 10-nanometer FinFET process for producing Snapdragon 835 which is the next generation of Qualcomm’s processor. One of the big advantages of the process is enhancing the energy efficiency as well as performance over the current 14nm FinFET technology which is used to manufacture the Snapdragon 820 and 821 models. According to Samsung’s analysis, processors coming with 10nm chipset technology would save about 40% power consumption and 30% increase in energy efficiency. As a result, the 835 chips would offer users better using experience.

In addition to performance and power benefits, the size of this next Qualcomm’s next generation chipset will be changed a little also. To be specific, this new chipset will be decreased. Therefore, the 835 chip would suitable for those smartphone makers who prefer the idea of slim design.

Future of Snapdragon 835

Along with producing smartphones, semiconductor division is also an important part of Samsung. Each year, manufacturing chipsets has highly contributed to the profit of the company. Therefore, this order of producing Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor is a promising sign for Samsung, at least, after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. It is high possibility that Samsung Galaxy S8 will be one of the very first smartphone to be equipped the 835 chip. As many phone brands uses Qualcomm’s processor, the 835 will be soon included in many handsets.

 Samsung released the Galaxy C5 and C7 in June, and now it is reported that they are working on the pro version of the two smartphones. According to the source, they are called Galaxy C5 pro and Galaxy C7 pro, which are more upgraded and have new features integrated.

Under the hood, the most noticeable change compared to the old versions is the chipset. C5 pro is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 625, and C7 pro is Snapgragon 626. The predecessors only work on Snapdragon 617, so this must be the highlight of this pro version. As curious as we are, the chipset is the only spec that is disclosed until now.

We can look back at C5 and C7 in order to speculate our new handsets. Two devices comes with a 4GB RAM along with two variants of internal storage: 32GB and 64GB, both can be expendable up to 256GB. The Galaxy C5 features a 5.2 inch display, while the other C7 sports a 5.7 inch display, both are full HD resolution. They share the similarity in camera by boasting a combination of a 16MP rear camera and a 8MP selfie shooter.

Regarding the battery, C5 packs a 2600mAh, and C7 has larger juice pack with 3300mAh assisted by Quick charge 3.0 technology. Looking at some main specs of the two predecessors, we can somehow estimate the two pro versions to some extent. They are expected to have more features integrated.

WCCFTech has spotted on the website of Canadian branch of Toys R Us the listing of Nintendo Switch, and it included the price as well! The listing has been since removed, however we caught a glimpse of a possible starting price point for the console. According to the old listing, the hybrid console is available at $329.99 CAD, which means roughly $250 USD. That is around the same level of price with the basic verions of the Xbox One and PS4, and even on par with the successful Wii, which was priced at $249.99 USD. If this is true, the price of Nintendo Switch will be very competitive.

If the price turns out to be true, hen we can infer that the Nintendo Switch will be much cheaper to produce than the not-so-successful Wii U. Nintendo has previously stated that it will not sell the new console – Switch – at a loss. The Wii U was sold at a loss, whose price started at $299.99 USD.
