Google Pixel smartphone this year comes with IP53 waterproof feature. This is a low number compared to IP67/68 of S7 or iPhone 7. So, how is the waterproof ability of this phone? Let’s figure it out!

Many high-end smartphones nowadays come with waterproof feature. Sony is the first company to start this trend with many waterproof devices like M4 Aqua , Xperia X Performance, or Xperia XZ. After Sony, Samsung also added this feature to their flagship S5 or S7 (Edge). Even iPhone this year has water resistance. Pixel smartphone of Google is not an exception. However, this phone come with IP53 certification, not IP 67 or IP68 like these devices.

IP53, you can see this number which is lower than IP68 from Samsung S7. This means that the ability to resist water of this phone is not really good. The first number after IP is the rating for dust resistance while the second number is for water protection. With this level, this phone can handle some sprays under the low-pressure water condition. It means that you can use it in the rain with some splashes. If you drop Pixel smartphone in a bathtub or in a full-of-water sink, the IP53 can’t protect your phone from getting damage.

There is one more thing you need to know that Pixel smartphone can only handle with some splashes or in the rain if it was kept in the vertical position. If the water gets into the USB Type-C port or the speaker grills, IP53 certification can’t help much. Google Pixel smartphone with IP53 doesn’t seem a great idea for those who want a waterproof handset.

Google Pixel: better next time

Among many waterproof smartphones from Sony, Samsung, etc with IP67/IP68,  it might not be a wise strategy that Google equipped their phone with IP53. Sharp Corner R: Stunning bezel-less curved display

You must be familiar with the dual curved display of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge right? This new phone from Sharp is at a whole new level: It packs a triple-curved display. In other words, not just the two sides of the screen are curved. The top edge of the screen is curved as well! Wait a minute! How can the top edge of the display be curved? The answer is Sharp Corner R has NO front top panel! This is something Sharp has done before with Sharp Aquos Crystal but this time, they have made an evolution by adding the curves to the Corner R.

This new arrangement not only makes the phone look absolutely stunning but also makes the screen-to-body ratio very high: 90%. In fact, this is the highest screen-to-body ratio ever in the industry! Talking about the screen, this new Sharp phone carries a 5.2-inch one with full HD (1080×1920) resolution. That results in the pixel density of 425ppi, which is very sharp.

As for other Sharp Corner R specs, the brand has not revealed anything. But there are expectations that this phone will arrive with a 3GB RAM and Snapdragon 652 chipset. Moreover, it is speculated that there will be a 3500mAh battery, a 16MP camera with dual LED flash and a waterproof system.

He also added that last year, the brand sold more than 500.000 units during October, and now they are able to reach that number in just 3 days! Back to the sales number of Xiaomi phones, the brand has provided that Xiaomi Redmi 3s (3s Prime) and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 are two most purchased models of Xiaomi. Xiaomi Redmi 3s, along with 3s Prime, was sold like hot cakes during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale on 2nd October.
