iOS 10 review: The lock screen, the widget panel and the control center

First of all in this iOS 10 review, let’s talk about the lock screen. The biggest change about the lock screen of iOS 10 is that there’s no longer “swipe to unlock” function, which is a signature of iOS. That seems to be risky, but in fact, it was done for a new function – the widget center, which we will mention later. So how can users unlock the phone? After waking up the display as normal, they need to press the home button. In iOS 10, Apple also allows users to wake up the phone screen just by lifting it up. One more function in the lock screen is the camera shortcut: sliding to the left from any random point on the lock screen, the camera app will open!

Another new feature we would like to mention in this iOS 10 review is the widget center. As mentioned above, the “swipe to unlock” feature is now used to access to the widget center. All assigned widgets are arranged vertically. Located on top is a quick search panel. This is quite similar to what is already offered in Windows Phone. However, the good thing is that, as all widgets are now in one place only, the pull-down notification center now include the notifications only, with nothing else in the way.

Last but not least in this iOs 10 review, let’s consider the 3D touch. This feature is not new, but in iOS 10, 3D touch has become more helpful than ever! 3D-touching an app will open its widget. Let’s come to Galaxy A3 (2017) first. This phone is powered by a 1.5Ghz octa-core processor and runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. It packs only 2GB of RAM paired with 8/16GB of ROM (+up to 256GB). The other Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 specs include a 4.7-inch HD display, a 12MP rear camera, and an 8MP selfie shooter.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 specs are stronger and better than A3’s. Under the hood, the phone will run on a 1.8Ghz octa-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Besides, it also packs 32GB of ROM (+up to 256GB). If you are a selfie lover, Galaxy A7 camera won’t let you down with a 16MP camera on the front. We usually see the f-number, called aperture, in smartphone camera parameters. So, what is aperture camera? How does it affect photos? Which size of the aperture is the best? 

What is aperture ?

First, what is aperture? Aperture is a hole within a lens. That hole lets all external light go further into the camera. The size of aperture decides how much the amount of light can go into the camera. The larger the aperture is, the more light enters the camera body, and vice versa. The size of the aperture is decided by the diaphragm which is a part of the lens.

The camera aperture is expressed in f-number. An interesting fact is that a smaller f-number means a larger aperture. This means f/1.7 >  f/2.0 > f/2.8. So, how does it affect photos? The f-number will affect the photo’s depth of field which is the area in focus. A small f-number will only focus on the foreground and make it sharp. The background will be blurry. On the other hand, a large f-number will concentrate on both the foreground and background.

A smartphone camera with a big aperture (a small f-number) will give you better photos when you need to take a portrait picture or take a picture in low light condition. When you need to capture a picture in bokeh mode, a large aperture is a better choice. Meanwhile, a small camera aperture will do better in the strong light condition. If you take a picture of a group of many people or a picture of landscape or architecture, a big f-number camera is proper.
