I bet by now, you all remember the good news we had about Samsung working to mass produce a new LPDDR4 DRAM, allowing for next Generation 6GB RAM smartphones to come, hopefully in 2016.

And, 2016 is coming in just a few months ahead. It is the perfect time for us to start looking around for leaked news and rumors about what will be the first smartphones to come with gigantic 6GB RAM. Here are 3 devices we collected from the internet. Although for now, they are still rumors and concepts, that doesn’t mean they won’t come to real life soon. After all, many of the greatest handsets had the same starting point: rumor!

1. Samsung Galaxy S7

The first to mention is Samsung Galaxy S7, the next generation of famous dual Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Of course Samsung won’t miss this chance to be the pioneer, especially when they are the company that will release 6GB RAM for future smartphones. It is obvious for them to “sign up” in the list of first smartphones that will feature such powerful RAM.

Some rumored Galaxy S7 specs include a dual camera setup, 6GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Although we don’t hear a word about the Galaxy S7 camera sensor yet, Samsung has been famous all over the world for their premium shooters, and the same should come with this new flagship.

2. Asus Zenfone 3

Oh yes, how can we forget that prime time when Asus Zenfone 2 was the first in the world to feature 4GB RAM smartphones. People went crazy hunting the devices, and Asus made amazing business from their babes. Earlier, the Asus Zenfone 3 was rumored to come with 5GB RAM. But this was before Samsung announced their 6GB RAM for smartphones. So if our logic is right, Asus will grab this chance to once again, be the first (or at least one of them) to pack 6GB RAM and have people talked about!

3. Sony Xperia QT

It is actually a bit surprising for us to find out that there is a concept about Sony Xperia Q line. But they are pretty awesome to be honest. The Sony future smartphone concepts have two versions, named as Xperia QA and Xperia QT. While the Xperia QA only sports 3GB RAM, the Xperia QT smartphone fits our category for having 6GB of RAM.

Its been one week since Apple started to sell their latest iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Today we get the reports from them, announcing that during the first weekend, the company have sold more than 13 million units in 12 countries: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and the US.

To make it easier for you to compare, the previous dual iPhone 5S and 5C sold around 9 million units combined during the opening weekend. 4 more million units were sold this time! After the success of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, Apple is planning to deliver the dual to an additional 40 countries starting October 9thTim Cook, Apple CEO, says iPhone 6s sales are ‘phenomenal’ …

Despite mixed critics and perceptions from users all around the world about the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus specs – whether they really are worth the pricing, Apple still made it big this time. And yes, people say everything happens with a reason (sometimes more than one). Here are the reasons why Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus could sell that much regardless of the tag, according to my personal point of view.

1. Rose gold color

Yes this can not be ignored! Many Apple fans, especially ladies, are crazy with the new color from iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. From what I have read, they love the way it looks with rose gold case: elegant, sweet, beautiful and matched with their personality. Nice move, Apple!

2. One-year after launch period

How I love this business strategy from Apple. If you take a consideration into what they have been planning, it looks like every year, Apple will launch a new generation of the iPhone. Last year we got iPhone 5S and 5C. This year we are enjoying the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. This “timeline” is quite cool for their sales since one year is enough time for tech geeks to experience a phone and start craving newer updates. One year is also a perfect period for those who missed the previous device, then would switch to wait for the newer version.

3. Apple is Apple

Believe it or not, many people admit they buy the iPhone 6S or whichever new iPhone, it is just because it is another Apple product. With their own iOS, the iPhone can sync perfectly to other Apple devices: iPad, iPod, Mac etc. That explains why many Apple users don’t want to switch to Android or any other OS, but stick to the “collection” they are already used to.

4. Signature ID touch

One of the best signatures from Apple iPhone is their ID touch. And with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, Apple also scrolled out  new 3D Touch and Live Photos features, which excited so many users worldwide. This even makes me think that not a small number of the new buyers get this device for the new Touch sensor.

We have heard about Xiaomi Mi4c for a while and now, you do not have to wait any longer since the Xiaomi Mi4c launch happened, introducing a smartphone with powerful specs and a cool price for consumers. Check it out!

Some people think that releasing Xiaomi Mi4c at this point in time is not really a wise choice of the company because it will have to compete with other premium flagships from big brands. However, some others agree that Xiaomi will have good sales of Xiaomi Mi4c as most buyers still want something affordable but strong. And it seems like Xiaomi Mi4c can do that.

Specifically, Xiaomi Mi4c specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip which is also the kind used for the flagship LG G4, GPU 418, 2GB RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. In addition, there are a 5-inch Full HD screen with super thin bezels, a combo of 13MP Sony IMX258 rear and 5MP front camera, 4G LTE support, dual SIM support and a USB Type-C port.

Thanks to this package of specifications, the new machine of Xiaomi was able to get 57,899 Antutu points, more than Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Antutu points announced not long ago.

As we know that Xiaomi has just introduced a new operating system known as Xiaomi MIUI 7 recently, now it will definitely appear on the Xiaomi Mi4c and be based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. In terms of apps, Mi4c has an interesting function called “Edge Tap”. With Edge Tap, both Mi4c’s borders will be able to response to light touches, which extend the interaction between users and the handset.

Xiaomi Mi4c will be sold out with 5 options over the color: black, blue, yellow, pink and white. The version coming with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM will cost $204 (around PHP 10K as the Xiaomi Mi4c price in Philippines) and $235 (PHP 11K) for the 3GB RAM plus 32GB ROM ver. Don’t you think they are attractive prices for a phone like Xiaomi Mi4c?

In conclusion, we hope that Xiaomi Philippines will bring the Xiaomi Mi4c here soon since its specs are so good if compared to such friendly-budget prices.

Xiaomi Mi 4c full specs

Next month, on October 6, 2015, Microsoft will officially launch their new devices, including 3 Windows 10 smartphones, a band and a tablet!

Though the event has not happened yet, some information about the phones leaked from an internal presentation is being spread all over the internet. Specifically, the smartphones mentioned in the leak are Microsoft Lumia 950, Lumia 950XL and Lumia 550.

As for the Lumia 950XL specs, there will be an up to 5.7-inch Quad HD (aka 2K) screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC processor, and 32GB of expandable storage. Moreover, it sports an Iris scanner, a USB Type-C port and 3,300mAh battery equipped with Qualcomm QuickCharge support and Qi wireless charging. Besides, a 20 mega-pixe PureView camera with triple-LED flash and a 5 mega-pixel front-facing shooter will be on-board as well. And of course, the handset will run on Windows 10 Continuum. Additionally, phone users can connect 950XL to a full-size monitor through a dedicated dock. That sounds great!

In terms of Microsoft Lumia 950 specs, it is smaller with a 5.2-inch screen but still beautiful with Quad HD resolution. The machine is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset and 3,000mAh battery, less than its sibling Lumia 950XL. Apart from those differences, other Lumia 950 specs match Lumia 950XL ones.

Finally, it is Microsoft Lumia 550 which will come as an affordable Windows 10 phone. Lumia 550 specs include a 5-inch HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz quad-core chip (still unknown), 1GB RAM, and 8GB of expandable storage. On the other hand, there are a 5MP main cam with LED flash and 2MP secondary snapper, and 1,905mAh battery.

Well, they all seem great in terms of both specs and design. Nevertheless, we notice that the phablet Lumia 950XL may cause some worries since it is run by Snapdragon 810 chip, which is quite “famous” for heating issues. Anyhow, we think Microsoft has been aware of that and found a good way to deal with it.

Chinese-made smartphones are becoming a bigger part of our technology world. Every month we have new devices introduced from China. Those Chinese smartphones win the users by a lot of advantages: usually cheap price, diverse choices, beautiful design, and continuous updates with latest specs.

There is no reason for I myself to boycott those Chinese smartphones because every user will have their own reason in choosing the best device possible. However, personally, I strongly believe that, despite the competitive price and beautiful design, more people will still overlook Chinese smartphones, and big a big brand instead. Here are my explanation.

Share with me your thoughts, whether you agree or disagree, and if you have any contribution to my reasons below:

1. Durability

Since the amount of money we tend to spend on buying a smartphone is not small, it should last for a decent period of time. Except for tech geeks who love to update the newest trends all the time, most of us are most likely to stick to one smartphone until it is broken. This is why the device durability (or how long a handset lasts) is very important.

If we put Chinese smartphones into comparison with big brands, it is very easy to tell which of the two will last longer. We pay a bigger amount of money to buy a smartphone of more well-known brands. In return, it will stay with us much longer than those made in China.

2. Distinctive quality

We do not deny that there are more and more growing Chinese smartphone manufacturers these days. Those big names like Xiaomi, Oppo, Meizu, Lenovo… have their own signatures, best-sellers and very clear business strategies. However, we can not deny either that, distinctive quality is one of the key factors that make a brand go big.

This explains why the figures of specs don’t always say anything. We have witnessed smartphones with 3,000 mAH battery but stay longer than those with 4,500 mAH during real life test (Samsung Galaxy Note 5 vs Lenovo K80 for example). We also know really well that a 13MP camera by Sony is way more beautiful than that 13MP from Xiaomi or Meizu.

I am NOT saying that to conclude that Chinese smartphones are NOT AT ALL good. Instead, I am trying to raise the point that, in terms of feature quality, there is still a big gap between older and younger companies, Chinese brands and world-famous brands.

3. “Authentic” and premium design

There is still that fact that many people think Chinese companies tend to copy designs from bigger brands: Xiaomi copy Apple, Lenovo imitates Samsung etc. Once again, I am not mention about this controversial copy issues. But brands like Sony or Apple have their long way of development, long enough that they build a “signature design”. Do you agree with me that you think the Xperia M4 looks just the the Xperia Z3? And that you can not distinguish iPhone 6 vs 6S or 6S Plus just by their design?

Buying a big brand smartphone, you are also buying their name, their signature, their design. The thing that just a quick glance at the back of the device is enough to recognize the whole brand.

4. “For the brands”

In order to be widely recognized around the world, the smartphone giants like Samsung, Sony, Nokia, Apple … had to spend a long time working their ways through all the ups and downs. That is why when you buy their products, you also buy their history, their success story and their best technology through the years.

Earlier rumors have suggested that, Xiaomi is trying to expand their product lines, planning their first laptop in 2016. Recently, Inventec, a Taiwanese manufacturing company has unveiled that they have started working on the Xiaomi Laptop.

Richard Lee, present CEO of Inventec, had an interview with the press and stated that his company is developing the first ever Xiaomi-made laptop, which is expected to be launched during the very first quarter of 2016. As a business partner, Lee shared that this movement is a very wise one, since Xiaomi is already growing strong in the smartphone industry with over 200 million users in and outside of China.

All we know before about the Mi Laptop is just a leaked picture of a laptop device having the “Xiaomi” name on its screen. All we know up to now is still the same (:D) plus the confirmation from Inventec CEO.

Much supportive as Lee to the launching of this Xiaomi Laptop, he revealed that he is a bit concerned about the business strategy Xiaomi is planning this time. Usually, in order to be more competitive and attractive to users, Xiaomi will set a very affordable price and low revenue. Their target is to sell as many units as possible and gain more profits from selling accessories. Whether this would work with Xiaomi Laptop is still a question.

Xiaomi laptop will, of course, run on Microsoft Windows as its default OS. However, Xiaomi may even launch the device with its own Linux-based OS. Like Android, Linux is much more easier to customized.

However, we already made our guessing about the upcoming device. We suppose Xiaomi laptop display will be a 15” screen at least. Xiaomi laptop may sport 500GB SSD internal storage. However, it would be nice if Xiaomi makes it for 1TB option. The device should have at least an Intel Core i5 as its processor. The last information we had included also 16GB RAM, but lets see on that part.

BlackBerry Venice is already very famous among us tech geeks. I bet you all know by now that it is BlackBerry’s first Android smartphone ever. I bet you also remember some of the noticeable BlackBerry Venice specs are 3GB RAM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 18MP camera and Snapdragon 808 processor. If these are true, then you have definitely not forget the company promised a November launch for this much anticipated smartphone.

The BlackBerry Venice launch is is coming closer. But it seems like we have not known the flagship’s real name through this whole time. Curious? Together with the leak about the official BlackBerry Priv name, there are more news coming up. @Pootermobile, a talented designer and Team BlackBerry member has introduced renders of the BlackBerry Slider, or BlackBerry Venice, or BlackBerry Priv with various choices of colors. While we are already so used with the leaking images of the BlackBerry Venice (or Priv) with black cover, these renders provide a fun and bright collection for the device.

Although up to now, either of the news is finalized yet, they come from pretty much reliable sources. So are looking for more interesting details to show up for the next two months, until the day BlackBerry Venice is officially introduced to our market.

We don’t hear it that often about iOS involving in apps hacks, malwares or viruses. However, the last weekend has witnessed the worst time of security breach ever in Apple history. What happened to be exact? Some (or many) of Chinese apps on the App Store have been attacked by a dangerous program carrying the code “XcodeGhost” hidden in their software. The malicious software was found first on Baidu, said to be accidentally embedded by Chinese developers for their apps. Unfortunately, “the ghost” made its ways to the App Store and started to attack other fellow apps over there. The XcodeGhost is reported to be doing harm to hundreds of millions of Apple users everywhere.

So what does the code do to your iPhones? Once it reaches your system, the XcodeGhost will collect your information set in the device and automatically send them to the servers. The list of information that it get from iPhone users is as below:

Current time
Current infected app’s name
The app’s bundle identifier
Current device’s name and type
Current system’s language and country
Current device’s UUID (Universally unique identifier)
Network type

Are you wondering why this is so dangerous and what can the code do with those information? Well, to make it as simple as possible: those user information is the key to open any door to your privacy. With those details, the code can totally send out fake alerts and fool users into revealing further personal figures. iPhone users may be tricked to enter their passwords to make changes on app. One of the most obvious damage the XcodeGhost can do is when you are on WeChat, all the information it has access to can easily get swapped around.

However, developers of WeChat have intervened very in time. They already updated the affected version (6.2.5) into the newer one (6.2.6), which is totally safe from affection. We highly recommend that you immediately delete your installed WeChat and download the later version if you haven’t done so yet.

Of course you can research further on other apps to find out whether their developers have done the same solution. Before deleting any app, don’t forget to backup your contact list and important information

Up to now, we have reported 77 apps in total that got caught with the malicious code. Apple immediately removed them all. However, for those you have already installed in your device, you need to manually delete it from your device to be safe from the XcodeGhost.

However, there is one update compared to the older version. While the Plus runs on Android 4.0 Kitkat, the Flash 2 will have Android 5.1 Lollipop. Although 5.1 is not the latest OS from Android, Lollipop is already great for a  mid-range device.
