You may have heard of Snapdragon 820, Helio X30, Kirin 950 or Samsung Exynos, … These chipset manufacturers always want to prove that they’re the best. However, Qualcomm seems to lose fans out there to Mediatek on the high end market. As Xiaomi Mi5 gets benchmark, many people guess that Snapdragon 820 will not be the choice on this handset anymore. Since Xiaomi Mi 5 scores more than 70k in the test, only a Helio X20 can help it reach that high. Therefore, Xiaomi Mi5will likely sport a Helio X20 instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 820?

Even though we may have been expecting to see how Xiaomi Mi5 would perform as the first Snapdragon 820 device, the test may prove otherwise.

To reach this high score, Xiaomi Mi5 specs have to be very powerful. Many suggest that it sports a Mediatek Helio X20, since only a Helio X20 can help a device reach more than 70k scores. So Xiaomi is abandoning Snapdragons too?

A few days ago, Samsung held a press conference in New York to release their latest generation of flagship: Galaxy Note 5.

As previously announced, the Galaxy Note 5 comes with 5.7 inch 2K display and a beautiful Samsung 16MP rear camera. The device is powered by strong 4GB RAM and a powerful Samsung’s Exynos 7420 chipset that runs on quad-core 2.1GHz processor. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 runs on Android 5.1 system and 3,000 mAH battery capacity.

Also released at the same time with the Galaxy Note 5 is the Galaxy S6 Edge+ with a curved screen and updated specs from the previous Galaxy S6 Edge

Coming with 5.7 but “only” equipped with 3,000 mAH battery, many doubt that this is not enough to power the Galaxy Note 5. Actually, despite reputation about high-quality camera sensors, Samsung products usually receive so-so feed backs about battery life.

In the figure, you can see 11 devices being shown with real life test results on how long each can last.  Topping the list is Motorola Droid Turbo with last 10h and 42 mins, followed by Sony Xperia Z3 with 9 hours and 29 mins of battery life. Surprisingly, contrast to what many think, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 battery life are as long as 9 hours 29 minutes and 9 hour 11 minutes respectively. Both Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 battery life are ranked excellent. To give you a better sense of comparison, the LG G4, while also packs 3,000 mAH, ranked last on the list with only 6 hours and 6 minutes of battery life.

Now let’s move to the second criterion of Galaxy Note 5 battery: charging time. Battery charging time is also one an important element users care about when using a device, as it can make life much more or less convenient.

From the second figure, we can see that Asus Zenfone 2 is leading with only 58 minutes to fully charge the battery. Ranked as second best, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 battery only needs 81 minutes to go up to 100% full. This is even less than 1 hour and a half, and is quite idea for any busy users.

After a while being at the center of attention, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has currently received negative comments about when announced the lack of microSD card slot. And when this result about Galaxy Note 5 battery life and charging is unveiled, we hope that it can somehow make up for the previous disappointment.

Like most devices, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ have their own pros and cons, which make them different from others and contribute to the reasons why users choose this device instead of others.

Nowadays, many people will stick with Samsung Exynos for the most powerful chipset series. Even Qualcomm Snapdragon has a hard time persuading users to believe they have solved the heating issues on their chipset. Under the Geekbench benchmark test, Huawei Kirin 950 has a quad core Cortex –A72 with 2.4Ghz clockspeed & quad core Cortex-A57. Moreover, Huawei Kirin 950 also supports RAM LPDDR4 & camera up to 42MP. It seems if we have Kirin 950 in our phone, our camera can be a superb photoshooter.

Additionally, the benchmark test also reveals scores for single core and multitasking on this chipset. It scores 1909 points for single core test and 6096 points for multitasking test. This is the proof that Kirin is the top chipset right now. Even Exynos 7420 only scores 1486 points on single and 4970 points on multitasking test.

This time of the year seems to be a mad competition between chipsets, with Xiaomi’s new chipset, Mediatek Helio X30, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, and even the next Apple chip will be coming to the market. Which chipset will be the best? The answer does not lie in the chipset itself, but the phone it will be equipped in. If the phone has a well-rounded customization with its specs, then the chipset will win. If the phone is just another normal device, the chipset will not save anything. Therefore, until now nothing can really be said yet.

Though this chipset is not released yet, we hope there will be a generation of chipsets that cost low and performs significantly. Moreover, it would be marvelous if more and more great devices such as Asus Zenfone 2 and its rivals to come to the market.

Helio X10 chip set, which was launched by MediaTek company earlier in March, is currently one of the most powerful smartphone processors available. The Helio X10 powers 64-bit octa-core SoC for mobile phones and is a direct rival to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor. As claimed by many sources, more and more companies now have the tendency to switch from Qualcomm to MediaTek. However, it is still a very controversial and personal argument to decide which is more optimal.

What you need: A cardboard box, duct tape, a magnifying glass, a paper clip, an X-Acto or Stanley knife, and your smartphone (it doesn’t need to be an expensive Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for this trick though).

Step 1: Have the magnifying glass  measured on one end of the box

Step 2: Cut out the exact whole marked before
