Resident Evil is a long and established franchise of the horror genre. With the intended release date in January next year, Capcom has given their Resident Evil 7 expected sales figure for the game upon launch.

Resident Evil 7 expected sales of 4 million copies on launch!

When Capcom announced the seventh installment of the Resident Evil (RE) franchise, it has captured the attention of everyone. When the company decided to throw out the release date back in E3 2016, ans of the series have been eagerly anticipating every bit of news coming out about the game. That is because Capcom has decided to be quite reticent in its marketing effort this time, only releasing small bits and pieces about what the game will look like, its mechanics, etc. Recently, we have been teased about the item management system similar to that of RE4, and the appearance of the shotgun.

With regards to all those aspects, Capcom has no hesitation giving out their prediction for how the game would do. The Resident Evil 7 expected sales, according to Capcom, would be 4 million copies upon launch. This is quite a big number, if we consider that Civilization 6, the most anticipated game on PC for the holiday, only sold 1 million copies after 2 weeks! Granted that, Civilization 6 is PC exclusive, while RE7 is multi-platform. Regardless of that, it is still an ambitious goal. Capcom has described Resident Evil as the “foundation title”, and would continue to sell well long after its release.

One of the aspects that makes Capcom confident in their expected sales figure is the fact that the release date of the game would coincide with the release of the movie adaptation. In January 27 next year, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, starring Milla Jovovich, will hit the theaters, and it is believed to help boost the game sales y a big margin. Moreover, Resident Evil: Vendetta, the next CG film based on plots of the game, will be released in Japan some time next year in Japan as well. That can help boost the game even further in Japan, and international too if the movie goes abroad as well.

Resident Evil 7 expected sales: Too optimistic or realistic?

Remember, the last game, Resident Evil 6, only managed to sell 4.8 million copies at the end of 2012, and it was released in October that year. However, the timing for RE7 release may be a deciding factor for the success of the game. Hopefully, it will reach its target. The game will hit the market on January 24, 2017, on PC, PS4, PS VR and Xbox One.
