Previously, we have reported about Samsung Electronics’s intention to expand production in the world’s fastest-growing mobile phone market India in 2018. Today, the Korean brand has officially opened their new smartphone factory in the city of Noida on the outskirts of New Delhi. Moreover, they also claimed that their new plant is now the “world’s largest smartphone factory”. On the other hand, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in inaugurated the giant assembling plant.

The new plant is a wise move of Samsung Electronics, considering that they are now facing many tough opponents from mainland China in India’s massive smartphone market. Additionally, this is also a support Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” campaign. In details, he is trying to attract foreign investment and boost the much-needed vacancies in manufacturing. Thanks to the new factory, they can generate jobs in Uttar Pradesh, an impoverished state of roughly 220 million people.

“This is an important step towards making India a manufacturing hub”. India prime minister said of the US$750 million factory investment. On the other hand, South Korean President Moon Jae-in also shared his thought on the good news: “The Noida plant has now become Samsung’s largest smartphone manufacturing unit”. Furthermore, Samsung also reveals their plan to manufacture up to 120 million smartphones a year at the factory. Besides, this is also an excellent chance for Samsung to lower their manufacturing costs. As a result, the Korean brand now can jump into the affordable smartphone segment with more mid-range Samsung phones!
