Also, this is the world’s first smartphone to have laser auto focus for selfies. Asus says that these features are ideal for “capturing life moments”, planning to make their fans amazed!

“I’m not the only narcissist in this room, we all want to be beautiful, right?” Asus’s design director, Jen Chuang, shared at the press release, just before she held up the device and snap a selfie of herself.

“At night or in a party, you might not usually be able to capture anything, but with our colour-merging tech, we can increase light sensitivity by 400 percent,” added Chuang. “Macro focusing goes as close as 6cm to bring all the details out you don’t see” – perhaps she is knowing the customers’ concern too well!

Asus ZenFone Selfie: Asus Zenfone 2 with enhanced cameras

In term of specs, the ZenFone Selfie is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, not Intel Atom processors like other Zenfone 2 series. Other Zenfone Selfie specs are pretty much the same from Zenfone 2. The new device features  5.5-inch IPS display with 1080 x 1920 pixels, LTE, 2GB RAM and updated Android Lollipop.

But compared to other variants of the Zenfone 2, we assume the Zenfone Selfie price won’t be more than $300, which is around 13,5K in our currency. Asus Zenfone series all get update to Android Lollipop

Asus Zenfone 2 has been receiving flows of attention over the internet lately with amazing 4GB RAM and newest Android Lollipop that users love. At the same time, other previous Asus smartphones Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 still stuck with Kitkat.

Interestingly, from the beginning of June 2015, Asus officially started to update all of the three devices into Lollipop via OIA and direct download from Asus’s forums. The update includes improvements, additions, and even some removals.

With the new OS update, changes Asus Zenfone series get are:

• Removal of pre-installed apps like battery widget, PhotoFrame widget, Movie Studio, Cloud Print, CMClient, and Magic Smoke Wallpapers
• New lockscreen with removed standalone wallpaper and weather details
• Revamped Dialler and Contacts
• Removal of in-call animation and cover
• Addition of My Ocean wallpaper
• Day Scene Live Wallpaper
• TripAdvisor
• ASUS auto-start service manager app
• Improved VOIP phone call and music function

The Zenfone 5 A500KL was the first to receive Lollipop, followed by the Zenfone 5 A500CG and the A501 CG are also receiving updates via OTA and direct downloads. The Zenfone 4 AC400CG also gets Lollipop, under the same method.

For the Asus Zenfone 6, only direct downloads are available to update the A600CG and A601CG

As promised, the Asus Zenfone 2 Launch Event in India did take place today. The company introduced 2 models with 4 variants of the flagship killer Asus Zenfone 2. All of them will be available on Flipkart with prices ranging from Rs 12,999 (PHP 9088) to Rs 22,999 (PHP 16080).

The Asus Zenfone 2 is easily accessible to all customers as it is not sold through a flash sale event. Two models that are brought to India this time are this highest ZE551Ml and the mid-end ZE550ML. All are called Zenfone 2 but they can be told apart by the chipset, the RAM and the internal storage.

Cameras and battery remain unchanged like the ZE551ML model with 13MP/5MP cameras and 3000 mAh battery keeping the light on.

Obviously, Asus Zenfone 2 is now the most anticipated smartphone in the world. This morning, Asus held an official launch for the South East Asia markets in Jakarta, Indonesia. And here it is, the 2015 flagship killer Asus Zenfone 2 finally comes to the town, Philippines included.

Two versions that are launched in this event is the highest version ZE551ML and the slightly lower-end one ZE550ML. It seems like we are not getting the entry-level variant in the occasion.

The higher-end ZE551ML features a 5.5” fHD (1920×1080 pixels) powered by a quad-core 64-bit 2.3GHz Z3580 Intel Atom processor, a13MP f/2.0 rear camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, massive 4GB RAM. 32GB is the internal storage capacity. A premium 64GB version was introduced this morning as well.

The mid-end variant ZE550ML also sports a 5.5” HD display but with lower specs, of course. An 1.8GHz Z3560 quad-core Intel Atom CPU is equipped inside the device paired with 2GB RAM, 16GB on-board storage (expandable via microSD card).

Both phones will come out of the box with Android 5.0 pre-installed, ZenUI 2.0 on top, a pretty generous 3000 mAh battery and LTE connectivity. An extra 5GB ASUS web storage.is what the company offers to its loyal customers.

The Asus Zenfone 2 price in the Philippines is not official yet but we hope it makes no difference compared to the price in Indonesia.

As for the design, Asus Zenfone 2 4gb has metal casing with 5 striking colors – Osmium Black, Sheer Gold, Glacier Gray, Glamour Red and Ceramic White, attracting people at the first sight along with the ultra-thin edge of 3.9 mm and concentric-circle pitch of 0.13 mm. All these features make its luxurious beauty and feel. Furthermore, thanks to a highly-intuitive control layout and a physical rear key, snapping selfies, adjusting the volume and retracing your steps become much easier.

However, the Asus zenfone 2 4gb ram has no innovation in its battery life. Additionally, not like the Zenfone 4, 5 or 6 the power button on the top somehow makes it difficult for users to reach because of the large screen.

Now just with the device, taking super high resolution photos like by DSRL camera, running a lot of applications at high speed (2.3 GHz), reading news without zooming in at the same time is no longer an impossible thing at the very affordable price. This can be called premium quality costs minimum price. For the reason, Zenphone 2 4gb is supposed to be a scary rival to many recent flagship smartphones in the market.

While we have to wait for the premium Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML 4GB variant. The ZE550ML version is now available with 3 different colors and even come with Dual Sim version with 3 different color options, too. We’ll try to take a review of the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML in the future, but the turn belongs to Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML right now.

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML design

Looking at the new Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML, you can see that it seems that Asus still keep the same design in Asus Zenfone 4,5 and 6 but with a little bit advancements. The most outstanding is the volume key positioned at the back instead of traditional on the side. LG in 2013 was known as the first one to shift the volume buttons from the side to the back of the device.

The phone will be packed with 5.5″ HD display, make a large looking though but still feels comfortable in the hands. With a 3.3 mm of thickness, the bezels are pretty thick, however Asus said that its thickness is already narrow.

Compared to other devices, we can see that the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML comes with bezels are slightly thicker than the HTC One M8 and nearly 3 times thicker than the 1.15mm bezel of the LG G3. The Android capacitive buttons are still located at the bottom end (Back, Home, Recent Apps) which should have been already replaced by one-screen buttons due to Kitkat/Lollipop UI implementation.

Another thing, build quality is still good and solid. You can remove tha back color to access to the two micro SIM card slots and a microSD card slot. While the first SIM card slot can support 4G networks, the second one supports 2G networks only. The battery capacity is 3,000 mAh and can not be removable.

With 5.5″ screen, the power bottom on the top may make a slightly unconvinient for users, especially when you have small hands. Alongside with the power bottom, the 3.5mm audio port stay on the top of the device, too. With the huge move of the volume key, just below the camera and dual-LED flash, therefore, there are no buttons on the both sides of the device.

Another disadvantage of the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML, the back cover has a plastic cover so it can be prone to smudges with sweaty or oily fingers. (You can choose the 4GB with metal panel to improve the trouble).

In conclusion: The phone has a pretty large size so it’s quite hard to use with only one hand. However, moving other buttons to the back is quite a good idea. A small odd of the phone is about the power button at the top side.

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML Display 

Although packing with a 5.5″ IPS LCD display and only an HD resolution but the display still looks pretty good and clear. The screen also reflect well even under the direct sunlight or low light condition. It means when you are indoor, the brightness is still good and, comfortable and the best brightness level would be roughly 70%. So you can set at a lower brightness to save the battery life of the phone.

Besides, the phone display is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 so it can help you avoiding scratches on the glass panel. However, it would be better if you still put an additional tempered glass or protective film in order to keep the phone as new as possible.

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML Camera

As we gave you some first samples of the phone before, Asus Zenfone 2 is shipped with a 13 MP rear camera. And the samples quality are quite impressive, even in poor light situation thanks to PixelMater.

Apart from the photo quality, needless to focus on Video recording. To be honest, the video recording is apparently good at FHD but the result appears well in 720P resolution.

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML Performance

The ASus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML model reports an Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core processor, a full 2GB of RAM along with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Navigation and transitions is smooth and snappy. Apps and games run just fine and multi-tab browsing on Chrome is jammy.

The phone gets a bit warm when running many multi-apps but no need to notice much about that. Even running 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited and Epic Citadel, the phone has caused only slight warming of the middle section of the back side.

About Antutu Benchmark, the 2GB was scored at 40926 points – a quite good scores to prove a strong performance of the phone.

Asus Zenfone 2 ZE550ML Battery Life

The phone has a sufficient 3,000 mAh Li-Po battery. If you are a Asus user, you can know that one of disadvantage of Asus phone is poor battery. But at least, Asus did try alot to improve the capacity of the battery to generous 3,000 mAh.

However, Asus supports smart charging, so you takes only 39 minutes to get 60% full battery capacity.

In conclusion:

The standard Asus Zenfone 2 is quite good choice for us. The phone comes with a solid design, pretty good hardware and a quite strong performance, LTE support and is priced at super affordable price tag.
