Yesterday, we reported on a rather interesting find regarding the memory configuration of Sony’s latest flagship pair. Noticeably, the plot thickens even further today. The US, UK and Canada listings for Sony Xperia XZ2 all quote 6GB of RAM. We went over a total of four listing to confirm both phones would get the higher RAM loadout. However, it seems the XZ2 Compact variants have been back down to 4GB in the original sources.

So, to recap, the way we see things currently, it seems the XZ2 Compact will get 4GB of RAM in every market. Meanwhile, the original scoop pertained to regional XZ2 and XZ2 Compact 6GB RAM units for Hong Kong and Taiwan. Meanwhile, the other confirmed US, UK and Canada get 6GB RAM variants for XZ2 and 4GB RAM for both. Apparently, this effectively leaves EU fans at a disadvantage.

For Sony Xperia XZ2 specs, it comes with a 5.7-inch IPS LCD (1080 x 2160 pixels) while Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact specs get a 5-inch IPS LCD (1080 x 2160 pixels). On the other hand, both Sony Xperia XZ2 devices sport 64GB ROM (expandable up to 400GB). In addition, both Sony Xperia XZ2 camera system features a single 19MP main snapper and a 5MP selfie sensor. Under the hood, Sony Xperia XZ2 battery rocks a non-removable 3180mAh juice box, and the Compact variant rocks a battery of 2870mAh capacity. Also, both devices run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and Android 8.0 Oreo.

However, since it took less than 24 hours for one of the original sources to change its specs, we have to wonder if this is all a giant misunderstanding that Sony needs to step in and clear up. Again, we’ll keep you posted if we learn more. So stay tuned!

To be fair, devices like the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra hinted that Sony is looking into a curvier aesthetic. However, Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are extreme so far than we expect. You still get a volume rocker, power button and dedicated shutter key from top to bottom on the right-hand side. Both get a Gorilla Glass 5 finish, while the bigger Sony Xperia XZ2 specs include Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides.

Both the Xperia XZ2 and the Sony XZ2 Compact specs feature an extra-tall aspect ratio – 18:9 and FullHD+ resolution. Sony also decided to stick to IPS LCD technology and develop HDR video support. Moreover, Sony also takes SDR video content and seamlessly tries to up-convert its colours to HDR levels during playback. Besides, S-Force Front Surround system is now 20% louder, compared to the Xperia XZ1.

The Qi wireless charging and Dynamic Vibration System are the only two the XZ2 Compact lacks, compared to its bigger sibling. Both phones are based on the same beastly Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB/6GB RAM, plus 64GB ROM setup, 19MP camera and 5MP selfie camera. The other novelty is world-first 4K HDR video capture on a smartphone, and Sony XZ2 duo could do 4K@60fps. The 3D creator app supports the front camera now, so you can finally make a scan of yourself without the help. The hybrid SIM and SD tray are on the left side or the top, on the Compact and regular version, respectively. The battery had to be cut down from 3180mAh in the XZ2 to 2870mAh in the XZ2 Compact.

The regular Xperia XZ2 will be available in Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Deep Green (Petroleum Blue) and Ash Pink. The XZ2 Compact adds its own Black, White Silver, Moss Green and Coral Pink. Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact and Sony Xperia XZ2 release date fall around March 2018. Sony Xperia XZ2 price starts at $773 ~ Rs. 49, 990, and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact price starts at $711 ~ Rs. 45, 999.
