The first reason is that 16GB ROM phones don’t offer enough space for the OS and applications. Let’s get back to the time when smartphones were new to people. At that time, 16GB ROM is a huge amount of space because the OSs back then were very simple and less space-consuming. But now, Android, iOs and Windows are all very strong in the performance and diverse in functions, hence take up huge storage in the ROM. This is one of the few phones whose main camera offers smaller resolution than the selfie camera. On the back of Oppo F1s, there is a 13MP camera with different shooting modes. The Ultra HD mode allows users to take 51MP images by combining 4 photos together. The HDR modes results in better photos than the ones taken in Auto mode. However, The Panorama mode does quite an average job. The entire exposure and the colors are nice but when you view the photos on computer screen, you will obviously see the lack of details.

The Expert mode, on the other hand, is a nice experience in smartphone photography. This modes allows users to manually adjust the camera settings, including the white balance, the exposure compensation, the ISO and even the shutter speed. This function is not new, as Nokia’s PureView technology already offers the same in Lumia smartphones. But by adding such feature to Oppo F1s camera, Oppo has made the phone more professional and more “expert”.

Compared to its predecessor – Oppo F1 Plus, Oppo F1s camera captures less precise detail (but still acceptable). But instead of the oversaturating issue in previous Oppo device, photos taken by Oppo F1s are quite toned-down and more natural looking. However, the biggest problem of F1s is the auto exposure. In Auto mode, the phone seems confused in deciding which level of exposure is the best. This issue is clearly shown in subsequent shots. Though capturing the same object, each photo appears different from the other.

Oppo F1s camera on the front: the pros and cons

Compared to the selfie shooter in Oppo F1 Plus, Oppo F1s 16MP front camera is better, but there are still rooms for improvement. Though this camera is called the “Selfie Expert”, there are not lots of differences between the photos taken by the front cam of F1s and the ones captured by “non-selfie expert” like Sony Xperia XA or Sony Xperia XA Ultra. However, the new Beauty mode produces better pictures, though too much “beauty” still results in “botox” photos. So overall, Oppo F1s cameras take great photos, but does it deserve so much praise?? Samsung, with the failure of Galaxy S5, was really desperate at that time because Xiaomi had ruled the budget segment.

At that time, many people were surprised that Samsung didn’t show any effort in taking back the budget segment by producing budget-friendly devices. They even thought Samsung had given up. But now, in 2016, it seems that Samsung has made a right decision! According to the latest financial analysis, after only 18 months, Xiaomi’s market value has dramatically fallen from 45 billion US to 3.6 billion USD! Meanwhile, in Q3 of 2016, Samsung has profited 3.82 billion USD – enough to take over Xiaomi completely!

So why and how did Samsung recover so rapidly? The answer is: Budget segment is never a wise investment in the long-term. Xiaomi did win in the first place, but then when countless brands started to attack the budget segment, Xiaomi has lost its customers! On the other hand, the high-end segment is the most beneficial one. Look at Apple! Their products are NEVER budget-friendly but they still gain billions of USD per year. Samsung has made a right decision not to follow the budget “trend”.

Instead, Samsung has invested a massive amount of money in the chipset and new technology. And now we see Exynos chipset and curved display, which are Samsung’s signature. The latest Samsung Galaxy Note , though packing the same processor as S7, still becomes best seller thanks to its Iris scanner and waterproof S-pen. Now look at Xiaomi products! All of them, besides the unnecessarily good specs, have nothing special. Remember that users buy smartphones not only because of the specs (in fact, many of them don’t even understand the specs) but also to have something to… show off! Too bad that with Xiaomi phones, they cannot find anything to be proud of.

Lenovo, which has been making some decently performed smartphones at reasonable prices, has announced its line-up of coming phones in recent time. Let’s have a look at the latest Lenovo smartphones!

1. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro

Expected to be released in September (which is next month!), Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is one of the latest Lenovo smartphones we know. This phone is the first in the world to have Google Tango integrated into it. To put it simply, Tango is a technology that allows you to have the same experience as Microsoft HoloLens, but on the screen of your smartphone. Google has worked on this for a while, and we will finally be able to experience this on Lenovo Phab 2 Pro!

Not only that, but this first phone on the list of latest Lenovo smartphones also has some nice specs. Under the hood, Lenovo Phab 2 Pro specs include octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, with 4GB RAM, 4,050mAh battery, and 64GB of storage (extendable up to 256GB). It has a huge 6.4″ IPS touchscreen of 1440 x 2560 resolution. There’s a phase detection autofocus 16MP rear camera, and a 8MP front shooter. It will run on Android 6.0. Lenovo Phab 2 Pro price is expected to be $499 (about Rs33,500).

2. Lenovo C2 Power

Launched a few days ago, and will be available in the Philippines in September, Lenovo C2 Power is an enhanced version of the normal Lenovo C2, and also one of the latest Lenovo smartphones. The capacity of battery is increased, from 2,750mAh to 3,500mAh, compared to the normal version. The RAM is also doubled, now 2GB. It’s truly a “Power-up” version. Otherwise, Lenovo C2 Power specs are not really that impressive: quad-core Mediatek 6735 processor, 16GB extendable storage, 5-inch IPS touchscreen, a 8MP/5MP rear and front camera combo, 4G LTE, and runs on Android 6.0. Lenovo C2 Power price is set to be $160 (about Rs11,000).

3. Lenovo Vibe P2

This phone on the list of latest Lenovo smartphones will be announced soon. For now, we only have some leaked information. Those information include some Lenovo Vibe P2 specs: 2Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM, and will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The battery is going to be huge: 5,000mAh! It will sport a 5.5″ 1080p AMOLED touchscreen. Nothing is known about the Lenovo Vibe P2 price, camera, or whether it will have fingerprint sensor yet, but it will be revealed soon!

4. Lenovo Vibe S1 Lite

Lenovo Vibe S1 Lite was introduced at the start of the year at CES, and was praised for its selfie shooter of 8MP. The main camera is 13MP with dual LED flash and phase detection. Other Lenovo Vibe S1 Lite specs include 64-bit 1.3Ghz octa-core Mediatek MT6753 CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, and 2,700mAh battery. It supports dual-sim with 4G LTE. This device runs on Android 5.1. Its screen type is IPS LCD, 5.0″ in size, with Full HD resolution. One of the latest Lenovo smartphones, the Lenovo Vibe S1 Lite price is $199 (about Rs13,250).

5. Lenovo Vibe K4 Note

Lenovo Vibe K4 Note (previously known as Lenovo A7010) is one of the latest Lenovo smartphones, and also one of the first to have fingerprint sensor. It was launched in Philippines earlier this year. The Lenovo Vibe K4 Note specs are: 5.5″ IPS Full HD screen, 64-bit 1.3Ghz Mediatek MT6753 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB extendable storage (up to 256GB), dual-sim with 4G LTE, and 3,300mAh battery. There’s a 13MP/5MP rear and front snapper combo. Dolby Atmos sound technology is also integrated for enhanced entertainment experience. The Lenovo Vibe K4 Note is $180 (Rs11,999).

Apple, despite what some people say, has always been doing things in its own way. However, it seems that Apple will jump into Samsung’s game: the curved screen. According to reports, a curved screen iPhone may be launched next year.

Curved screen iPhone: Apple’s change of strategy

According to Nikkei Asian Review, next year’s iPhone line-up will have 3 different and distinct variants: a 4.7″ model, a 5.5″ model, and a premium model with 5.5″ or larger, with screen curved on the sides, or in short, a curved screen iPhone. We can’t help but think about Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and of course, the recent hype of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Nikkei Asian Review said they got this information from a source familiar with Apple’s plans.

The report did not explicitly state it, but that would mean Apple has to switch to an OLED screen for the premium curved screen iPhone. The first two new models will still sport traditional flat screen, which means they will likely be LCD. However, as we have said in an earlier article, OLED screen is superior to LCD: they consume less energy, display dark colors better, and they can be more flexible (curved). Also, there’s a bit of irony here, since Samsung will be the sole supplier of OLED screens for Apple.

Of course, reports like this need to be taken with a grain of salt. However, there are reasons to believe the rumor this time. Firstly, Apple has been granted patents for their curved screen. They’re not good just sitting around, so a good bet is that it will be put to good use with the curved screen iPhone. And, with the coming line-up of iPhone 7 reported to not be different from other iPhone models, Apple would need to step their game up in terms of design.

The introduction of curved screen iPhone will mean a lot to Apple. With the enormous success of Galaxy S7 Edge, and the recent Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has proven that curved screen is not just a marketing gimmick. With Apple’s declining sales in recent consecutive quarters, and its criticism of no innovation in recent iPhone models, the curve screen could be a game changer. If Apple implements it well, it can break out of its state of stagnation. And the Apple faithfuls can rejoice once more.
