First 5G iPhone with Intel Modem Can Hit the Market in 2020!

Previously, we have reported about Apple switching from Qualcomm to Intel for their iPhone modems. As their next move, it seems like the US manufacturer has chosen Intel for their first iPhone with 5G connectivity. According to our source, the 5G iPhone is going to run on the Intel XMM 8160 5G modem, which can debut in late 2019. In details, this processor is going to be the replacement to the old XMM 8060 modems. Furthermore, Intel is going to release this modem in North America first and later in other countries from Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific, etc.

On the other hand, the new model is going to be multi-mode. As a result, it can support 2G, 3G, and 4G networks as well as 5G. Moreover, it also comes with EN-DC too, which allows this modem to support 4G and 5G networks simultaneously. Besides, it has support for standalone as well as non-standalone specifications of 5G New Radio (NR) standard. Intel states that the XMM 8160 5G modem can provide peak speeds of up to 6Gbps via bandwidth of 800MHz, and up to 4.7 Gbps via bandwidth of 200MHz.

For the past years, both Samsung and Apple have been dominating the world’s smartphone market. However, the rise of many popular Chinese manufacturers proved to be a significant threat over these two giants. And finally, one legend is going down today! According to the latest report, Huawei catches up to the race and now surpassed Apple to become the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer. Let’s get a more in-depth look into the situation through International Data Corporation (IDC) data.

Firstly, Huawei’s market share in the second quarter of 2018 increased by a whopping 40.9% year-on-year (YoY). As a result, the Chinese brand climbed up the ladder to the top. Moreover, the Chinese manufacturer has shipped a whopping 54.2 million smartphone units in Quarter 2 2018. Meanwhile, they grabbed a market share of 15.8%. Notably, this is an impressive increase as brand shipped 38.5 million units during the same period last year. On the other hand, Huawei continued to lead the Chinese smartphone market with a record market share of 27%.

So what is the reason behind this success? In the first half of Quarter 2, the duo Huawei’s P20 and P0 Pro flagships were in strong demand in the $600 – $800 price bracket. On the other hand, Samsung continues its winning streak with a total of 71.5 million smartphone shipments (20.9% market share). Apple falls behind with 41.3 million iPhones and 12.1% market share.

Sadly, there’s not much info on this year’s upcoming iPad Pro lineup except that it should equip with the iPhone X advanced face recognition tech. According to the Japanese source, both the 10.5-inch and the 12.9-inch iPad Pros will have reduced dimensions overall. The 10.5-inch model will go from 250.6 x 174.1 x 6.1mm down to 247.5 x 178.7 x 6mm while the other one will get an more extreme side cut – from 305.7 x 220.6 x 6.9mm down to 280 x 215 x 6.4.

It is obvious that Apple will cut off the bezels in pursuit of the iPhone X look on the front with the edge-to-edge display while keeping the same diagonal. In addition, the report says that the company is looking to remove the headphone jack as well. On top of that, the tablets’ retail box won’t be including the Lightning-to-3.5mm audio jack adapter. To be specific, he has released the dummy models of the 6.5-inch iPhone and 6.1-inch version of the 2018 Apple phones. In details, the phone in white is the top iPhone 11 Plus model. You can tell by the dual camera on its back rather than by the notch on its front. Besides, all new iPhones will have notches.

On the contrary, the black device is the budget 6.1-inch iPhone that we have been teasing about. Also, this phone is thought to be the iPhone SE Plus, though this one’s release date has got pushed back by a month. It will use an LCD panel, while the other new iPhones will go with AMOLED screens. Something that has made production much more difficult and has delayed the displays by around four weeks.

There are plenty of Apple devices going around in the last few months in the EEC but none of them is the actual new iPhones since it’s too early for that. Instead, the model numbers shown in the leaks indicate that the company is preparing to launch two new 2019 iPads. The first leaks of them go way back in April, the listings of the unknown models now have updated to iOS 12 instead of iOS 11. Besides, the EEC has added two more model names – A1895 and A1980.

None of the listed model numbers has appeared under Apple before. In addition, there’s a rumour going around that the model numbers refer to a more high-end tablet, an iPad Pro perhaps. From what we have known, the devices will come with an 11-inch display with thin bezels and no home or Touch ID button, just like the iPhone X. On another news, we heard that Adobe was planning to launch a full version of Photoshop for the iPads.

Hence, this new ‘full-fat’ version will allow you to edit your creations on an iPad with full cross-platform capability.
